Singlepoint strike then are defeated

I am overseas with the Army for 6 months and on arriving in my new destination turned off my mobile and got on with life. I carried on paying my monthly tariff in order to keep my number (28.00 per month). Imagine my surprise two months into the tour of duty when I receive a bill for just under 240.00!!!

It transpires that despite my phone being off for 3 months, someone had left me a message and my voicemail was trying to ring me for five days at international rate and in so doing racked up 212.00 on my bill.

My initial rantings with them went unheard as they said I should have deactivated my voicemail before I went overseas (obviously a top priority before deploying to Iraq!!) and so I would get no refund. It was only after going up two more levels of management and a threat of going to the Media (the week before Xmas when the Army is always very popular) that they finally refunded me the 212.00.

The moral of the story is to remember to deactivate your voicemail before leaving the UK and never take no for an answer when you feel as though you are right.
