Loan settlement
Can someone please explain how you get to your settlement figure. I have 2 years left on a 5 year loan and am looking to pay it off. So 23 months of payments works out £50 greater than what we would get with a settlement figure today. Is that correct?

Loan applications/rates
After a bit of advice... I've got a better-than-average credit rating, and applied for a loan with Santander (advertised with an APR of around 3%) to consolidate and pay off some debts. They replied to me this morning advising me that they'd accepted me for the loan, but at a rate of around 23%! Obviously I'm disinclined…

Postscript about holding a loan provider responsible
I left a message here about whether I could hold Barclays (that provided a loan) jointly liable with a business regarding.delays in repairing a faulty door (the company claims not once but twice on its website that it will act 'quickly' if any faults arise). I just wanted to add a postscript,. After waiting nearly two…

Changes to student finance rates, please check if this is true...
So there's an open email to an MP from a student going viral at the moment, you may have seen it. It's about repayments for the first batch of students on the new levels of fees. As one of said recently graduated students, I feel like I should be angry, but not sure whether it's at this supposed change in rates, or at the…

Personal loan and switching current accounts
Hi, I'm looking at buying a used car from a dealership soon and the best financing option for me would probably be a small (£2500-£3000) loan through my current account provider NatWest. The rates my bank's eligibility checker are offering are competitive compared to the other car finance options, and I'd own the car right…

Student Loans
Hi all As I took my student loan out after September 2012 I have been put on to what the student loan company calls payment plan 2, which means that anything over £21,000 will be charged at 9%. Importantly this also gets whipped after 30 years from the start of your loan repayment. I have two questions regarding this. 1.…

Savings vs Loan for essential home repairs
So I've just had what I thought was going to be a moderate home repair job quoted. It turns out my kitchen floor has wet rot and rising damp due to poor workmanship from the previous homeowners. The carpenter who came to look today said its about 4-5 weeks work and will cost about £9-10k to fix and put right. That's…
