Student Loans / Student Finance

Hi Folks!

There may very well be a far more better suited category for this, but I imagine this would be the first port of call for someone looking for help and advice re Student Loans and or Student Finance enquiries they have.

I will be happy to help you with anything you'd like to know. I have extensive experience with repayments and eligibility, evidence etc for student finance.

:T

Look forward to helping you out!

I need some advice. Where's the best place to go? Does anyone have a link for the student forum please? :j
  • Hi,

I was wondering if you could help with calculating my total current (and future) student loan debt? I'm graduating next month, so haven't started paying back, but would like to know the total sum.

I've made an excel spreadsheet to work it out (which there doesn't seem to be anyway to upload), but it doesn't match up with the total on the Student Finance Repayment website (which is for 30/04/2016, and is only a single figure with absolutely no breakdown). On the spreadsheet, I have calculated the daily interest rate for each of the 3 relevant years (2013/4, yearly=6.3%, daily=0.01674%, 2014/5, yearly=5.5%, daily=0.01467%, 2015/6, yearly=3.9%, daily=0.01048%), and the number of days between each loan payment and now (6 different dates for each year, as tuition and maintenance loans are each paid in 3 instalments). Is there anything about the loan that I have missed that could explain the difference? (My calculation is about £4000 lower).

    Thanks!
  • Student Loan Company enquiry: Why is it that loan decisions are based on whole-household income? In our case: 1. cohabiting partner has nothing to do with offspring, 2. financial matters of cohabiting partner are separate, 3. parent (me) is on ultra-low income, 4. offspring will be deprived of much-needed funds if partner's income is included (self-employed = 'income' does not reflect available funds = he too is much poorer than appears on paper).
After all, this is about a loan that the student will have to pay back - it's not government hand-outs.
Pointers, information, advice all will be appreciated.

For all the new posters, there is a Student Board on MSE where you can post these questions, if the answers aren't there already.
  • Thank you. I'm finding the MSE boards a bit of a jungle - tried to do a search for a more suitable thread but couldn't find it. Will go in search!
