Replacing 3 Windows with one big window
Hi All, We bought a house in the summer and have some plans for Spring 2022 which include a new conservatory (I know it'll be too hot in summer/cold in winter, but we are fine with that. Paint smells like 'wet dog'
I didn't realise that paint can deteriorate and go off but I used some Dulux emulsion which had been stored for a few years. There was no bad smell when I opened the tin and it looked normal. However I painted inside my conservatory: the dwarf brick walls as didn't like the original red brick but it's dried leaving the…

Paint and stabiliser/PVA glue
Hi all, Very quick question, can you use paint stabiliser or watered down pva glue to dilute paint when doing repairs to flaky paint? I've sanded all the rubbish off, cleaned the walls, and now the advice is to use pva glue/stabiliser to fix the paint, fill/sand and then paint over. Was just wondering if I could save a…

We’re cold and we need a new boiler - old Potterton Suprema 80 is gasping its last breaths :( . I'm going away for a few days shortly and wondered whether this frost protection is sufficient to safeguard the entire system (boiler, rads etc). Or would it be wise to set the room thermostat…

Does a fireplace need to go directly under the chimney?
I’m buying a house and the rooms have been enlarged in a way that has resulted in the fireplaces being off centre. The chimney breasts are visible on the inside of the room. I’m wondering if I could put the fireplace more centrally to the room and to the side of the chimney breast. Hopefully some clever panelling will then…

Bosch washing machine - garbage
I was thinking, 'Oh I'll get a high quality Bosh German washing machine, they're reliable'. Our Mile lasted 20 years, surely they're similar. Well no, the thing is garbage. It breaks down, then breaks, then breaks. The lowest quality parts. This month it broke again. The cheapest, poorest quality parts, with a fancy label…
