White wood floors - good or bad idea

Hi
we are redoing the floors in our house both ground and upstairs  , and are keen for a white wood.

The sample we are keen on is :

https://www.ukflooringdirect.co.uk/engineered-wood-flooring-home-choice-ash-lemon-sorbet-grande?quantity=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIk-rjlp7y9AIV0d_tCh3u5AZvEAQYASABEgKXPPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

a few flooring companies have given us quotes but seem not too keen on this floor, mainly as then feel you can’t see the wood grain clearly and also as it may get marks quicker. The cynic in me feels they want us to buy the floor from them.

Most other white woods we’ve seen are essentially light brown.

any one has issues with white wood flooring? And are ukflooringdirect a reasonable company?

Many thanks

Can't help with ukflooringdirect, I'm afraid - but whilst that flooring looks good in the picture, won't it be a bit clinical if used throughout the house?

Plus you'd have to impose a 'soft slippers only' regime on everyone who crosses your doorstep, as rubber soled shoes will leave awful skid marks!

Maybe the flooring companies who have declined to fit this colour have done so because they know you won't be happy with the finished result?

Our natural oak engineered flooring has been down for 4 years now, and it's still absolutely beautiful.

It would depend on how you and your family live.
Do you remove, put on shoes outside, do you have an enclosed porch for this, do you supply clean slippers for visitors?
I only remember my friend in Oz who had light wood polished floors installed throughout and from a welcoming home to one where you had to be constantly careful.
Some like it that way for appearance sake.
It's your home, you should have it as you want -on the other hand it is a commitment to a way of life.
Could it be sealed in some way?

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

  • Thanks all. We are trying to go for a clinical clean look. Generally we have shoes off outside and same for guests. I guess if we had parties we'd make the odd exception. when you mean seal is that the same as brushed and lacquered? (which I think the material is) thanks

I have very light wood sheet vinyl in my kitchen/diner which shows every mark - but I like it as I can actually see when it gets grubby.  "Not showing marks" just means the dirt is disguised IMO, I would rather it was clean!
