We have planning permission to extend our house and in the process remove some outbuildings in our side, that are close to the boundary. The neighbours have a building that actually comes over the boundary onto our land and appears to use our building as support. As they are close to the boundary we have been advised to…

Woodburner heat
No mains gas anywhere wher I live, and it's very rural. There are electric radiators for when the weather is excessively cold. My query is about the heat from my very efficient woodburner. I expected that the heat would move upstairs from the living room when I keep the door between them open. Not so. The heat only rises…

New build window noise
Hey guys & gals, I purchased a brand new home in April. This was our first home. However it seems very noisy. My house is right by a main road through the village (20mph limit). But I can literally hear people walking down the path. They are roughly 8foot away from my windows yet I can hear them walk and talk. Is it normal…

Maybe a silly question about paint...
I've just bought a late Victorian red brick terraced house - I've read a lot on here and on the house buying board about how the walls need to breathe on older houses - and I'm wondering if that applies to mine, and if it should influence my choice of paint... So my immediate concern is the bathroom - needs painting soon -…

Cavity wall insulation damp
We bought our house in July 2014. We needed to gut the place, and paid professionals for their advice along the way. There was a damp issue in the bungalow, so we took someone on to complete a damp survey which they followed up with the work - the hacked the plaster off, they pointed the walls with something, re plastered…

best way to link to condensate trap
I have just had a new combi boiler fitted by an approved and Which recommended installer but I noticed that the condensate trap was only 70 mm (should be 500 mm) from the house wall. It was not practical to link to grids which were a full house length away (poor boiler siting in my porch replacing old trad boiler) and pipe…

Keep getting air in radiator after system drain
Last week I had a plumber round to replace a leaking TRV on the radiator in my bedroom, which involved him draining this radiator and also one of the downstairs radiators. Marks and Spencer sale
Marks and Spencer are currently advertising a furniture range (Hastings) for 50% off and this includes a 'multiple deal' for 20% off when you buy 2 items. I placed both items into my cart and the price went back to full price again. After a bit of digging, I found a screen that said the 50% off would not apply until 19th…

Hello, We moved into a 1930s semi in May. Homebuyer survey carried out in February reported no problems with cracks etc. The house has an extension which was built over 20 years ago.
