New build window noise

Hey guys & gals,
I purchased a brand new home in April. This was our first home.
However it seems very noisy. My house is right by a main road through the village (20mph limit).
But I can literally hear people walking down the path. They are roughly 8foot away from my windows yet I can hear them walk and talk.
Is it normal for it to be this loud?
Thanks in advance.

It's probably the trickle vents above the glazing to allow for ventilation. My dd's new house was the same and I blocked them up -but she makes sure that the windows are open for a few hours each day.0
