Stat Temp / Hot Water help
Good afternoon guys, I changed my cylinder thermostat yesterday as it was broken, it's working fine but after doing internet research apparently it should be set at 60-65? Yesterday evening I put the hot water on for an hour and ran a bath, had nice hot water but literally not enough to fill the bath full, is this normal…

Wood filler or generic filler?
I've got some Ronseal wood filler which I was planning to use to cover some nail/screw holes and dents in some mdf skirting and some pine doors/door frames. I tried using it last night and it's horrible. It goes off incredibly quickly, it stinks, you have to constantly mix up small batches as it goes off so quick and it's…

Upstairs/downstairs flat - who should pay?
So about three years ago after I moved into my first floor flat I had a couple of floorboards replaced in my bathroom because the bath had been leaking and they were rotting (the previous owner didn't look after the place very well). When they were replaced it turned out there was also some damage to the joist below, so a…

Do you think this fireplace will support a wood burner?
Thinking of buying a new place, it is fairly new build (10 years or so) and has a huge 'feature fireplace' in the front room. It has a stone hearth etc, but is blocked off with a wooden panel. In the room above, there seems to be a flue running through it, and there is a chimney with an elephants foot above that. Like I…

Painting onto bare plaster
Hello, I’ve had my walls plastered and applied a mist coat. I then needed to sand a few areas so did that but now there are small patches here and there where you can see the bare plaster. Do I need to touch these up with mist paint or can I move on to my first top coat? Thanks

Leak/Flood damage Estimate in my flat
I live in a 2nd floor flat above a shop. Unfortunately, there's been a couple of accidents with water leaks in my flat - a flooded bathroom and a long term undetected slow leak in the kitchen in the last year. This has affected the 1st floor flat below me. I'm trying to avoid landlord involvement and so want to get an…

Smartwater
Anyone heard of this stuff? I saw it in London a few months back when I was there for a few days. Had never heard of it. Looked it up, it's like the old liquid microdots you used to be able to put on stuff (I don't know if they still do that). The microdots would have your details on for the police to find. However, I'm…

Smeg Oven Packed In - Rough Repair Costs?
My Smeg oven has packed in, the grill, fan, stove etc, all still work. I'd like to get it repaired if possible. I don't know much about ovens, but I'd imagine it's the heating element? Do these things cost much to get fixed? Thanks in advance.

Remove coaxial cable from wall?
Our front room has a male coaxial cable coming out of the wall as well as a female coaxial socket screwed onto the wall next to it. These cables don’t look great and we’re not using them. They’re situated in a spot where they’re not hidden by furniture (and we don’t want to move furniture there). I’m not sure how to go…

Which carpet shampooer?
I was thinking of buying the latest version of Vax Carpet shampooer but have just seen a presentation for Rug Doctor which looks pretty good. Looks like it leaves carpet pretty dry too. Has anyone used either machine and which is best in your opinion? I need it to clean upholstery as well as carpets.

Increasing shower pressure / flow
We have a barn conversion which was converted around 13 years ago and looking for a way to increase the flow/pressure from the shower. It's not bad just not great. The water flow coming into the property seems ok (c. 12 litres/minute) and the boiler (combi boiler) is a decent size - 30kw. So what could be causing the…

Does anyone else have trouble finding a gardener?
I just have to rant. For almost 3 years I have been looking for a gardener. I have tried mobile apps, Facebook, RatedPeople and so on. The most recent attempt was an ad in a window and like the rest before them; responded in good time, arranged a meeting but failed to show up. I have been in contact with no less then 10…

Has my shed base been laid correctly?
I had someone in to lay a slab base suitable for a 12ft by 8ft shed approx. 2 months ago. The Shed was erected two weeks later. A total of 30 slabs (600x600mm) have been laid (5 down by 6 across). The shed was placed in the middle leaving half a slab visible (boarder). I have noticed today that one of the slabs has cracked…
