looking at removing the Artex in my small loo, and then having it replasted the council have just done a asbestos check in the property and have confirmed that there is no asbestos in the property and is save to remove,

but what would be the best way guess this is going to be a really messy job, but better in the long run,

  • Knock off any high spots with a scraper, paint with pva/ blue grit/gypbond etc and skim.
Lob a couple of handfuls of bonding coat into a bucket of multi finish for the first coat then plain multi for second coat.

If the artex has been applied on a lime plaster ceiling that has had numerous coats of whitewash and/or distemper slapped on, it can only end badly.

OP - You need to do some tests to see how well the artex is stuck on the ceiling. Try pealing a few bits off. If it falls off in your hand, then scrape the rest of it off before doing anything else. Skim only if the artex is firmly adhered.
