Fair architect fees
Advice needed please. We have taken on the services of an architect for a single storey extension & front porch. When we had our initial meeting to discuss our plans we informed them of our total build budget to which we were told would be a sufficient amount for what we required. We started the process & used the…

What flooring tiles are these?
I'm looking to to put some wood flooring down in the hallway, and whilst poking about under the carpet that currently exists I noticed these odd, thin green tiles. The carpet gripper has been nailed into them, and they're quite brittle (near the site I was looking at they are cracked in places). I managed to pull up the…

Anyone got an in ground trampoline?
I'm planning to get a 10ft trampoline and dig it into the garden. I am drawn to the Rebo range, as they seem to have a higher weight limit than most of the others (120kg) at around the £200 price range. I have no problem installing it myself. Even though the garden is flat and a bit damp, I am going to dig a much deeper…

Roof survey
Hi All We live in a 1970's built semi. The roof has been patched on occasions and I'm aware the linings a bit shoddy in places. I'm wondering if we are near the time to replace it or renovate etc? Is 45 years old ok for a pitched tile roof or is this the life expectancy of it? Are we looking at big bucks to replace?

Need a photo frame for a map?
Hello we purchased a. I've map that we want to now get a photo frame from, the map is 60cm x 43cm and would like to get a white wood, thick if possible but understand they are more pricey so can be thinner but white. Best pressure washer for car?
My understanding is that you still need a hosepipe right? Well, we do have one of those, and currently we're using car shampoo, warm water, and sponges Ideally, I'd like to use something fairly light, just for the car. I understand that you can get those ones that do your garden, windows etc.. and whilst they're nice, week…

Paint
Hi We've got an entire house to paint & it's new plaster. We're busy poring over the various colour charts but they all have similar colour ranges. Does anyone have any knowledge as to which are the best to apply or which to avoid ? The likes of Wilkinson paints are cheaper but does it give as good a coverage as say Dulux?…

Valiant and Worcester Boiler Quotes
Hi I need a new boiler because ours is old and has broken the last few winters and also to accomadate a new extension we will be having next year. So we have had 3 quotes (all local small firms) and I'd appreciate any guidance before we make a decision which one to go with. All quotes include fitting (doesn't need to be…

Dropped Kerb
Hi All, I want to drop a single kerb 'unit' opposite my driveway which will enable me to get my second car onto my driveway a little easier. The kerb 'unit' I refer to (because I don't know what to call it) is literally about a meter long (max). When I contacted the council about it, they have said I have to submit an…

Has anyone fitted quickstep Vinyl flooring (not laminate)
Evening folks We are replacing the flooring in the downstairs of our house soon - will be approx 60 square meters. I have seen the quickstep vinyl plank flooring which appeals as I gather you don't need to fit edging strips around skirtings etc. Some of my skirtings are curved so this would look rubbish and removing them…

Boiler issue
I have an old Worcester Bosch. I only turn it on when I need to shower/wash up or if it's cold. The radiator in my bedroom wasn't working. I have boiler cover, so called British gas. Guy came out, said it was a pressure problem, appeared to sort it, but radiator didn't work when he left. Called them out again, said it was…

Help! Why is my shower cold?
I moved in with my partner a few months ago; and his shower is COLD. That's okay in the Summer, but for the past few days it's been killing me. He moved the shower when he originally moved in; and I think that might have something to do with it. There's hot water from the tap that is now where the shower used to be; and…

Best oil for double glazing
I would like to oil all the moving parts on my double glazing such as locking mechanisms etc. I remember the people who fitted my windows telling me not to use WD40 but a different oil that was much better to use. I cannot remember which one he recommended. Please can anyone suggest the best oil to use ? Thanks.

Megaflo release valve handle broken - is it safe?
I was giving my Megaflo boiler its routine "bubble regeneration" and as I finished the release knob broke off in my hand. Seems to be wear and tear as I certainly wasn't being particularly forceful with it. The boiler seems to have drained normally, pressure is at the usual 1 bar and there is no water flowing down the…

Extractor fan vs gas fire solution?
Our gas fire's air flow is being disrupted by the kitchen extractor fan drawing dangerous Carbon Monoxide back into the home. We've cleaned the chimney and increased ventilation into the lounge where the gas fire is but the normal airflow is still being disrupted whenever the extractor fan is on. Our engineer is baffled.…

Boundary dispute
Hi this post is about a boundary dispute we've lived at the property 5 nearly 6 years The neighbour has seen me erecting a pagola near the boundary (12inches away from his fence) and I don't think he likes it. He is now saying I've stolen 18 inches of his land because there used to be boundary post on my side before I…

F61 error on Vaillant Eco TEC Pro 24 boiler
Morning All, Some advice please. The above error number is showing on my boiler - no heating or hot water. I've re-set a number of times and it comes back on, when I did it this morning it sounded as if the boiler had to fill with water any ideas please? I've looked in the book and it says Gas Valve issue but if that had…
