Toilet nightmare
Hello wonder if anyone can help me with any ideas here... I live in a first floor flat and on Christmas Eve my toilet was completely blocked, I tried to clear it with the mop in a bin bag trick but no joy. In fact the toilet decided to start leaking from the back as well, possibly due to me trying to clear it with too much…

Everything needs fixing!
Me and partner live in property that I bought 3 years ago. We've recently decided to stay where we are for the next 10 years or so, meaning that there are some jobs which really need doing: Bathroom - this was top of the list. It's run down, not nice and really desperately needs updating. It's not feasible to refurb as the…

Socket not working, will it be a fuse??
Just moved into a new house, well new to me. Washing machine and tumble dryer arrived yesterday. Just done a wash and went to use tumble dryer and it didn't work. Unplugged it and tried a new socket and it worked fine. So it's the socket that is not working (it's one with no on/off switch), do I just have to change a fuse?…

Wetroom flooring fix?
We have a wetroom with contract vinyl type flooring (Altro Aquarius) but two of the corner seams are damaged and have been repaired unsuccessfully with silicone sealant. This has caused a damp problem on the walls. We've stripped off tiles and will aquaboard but need to fix the corner seams. But a local company (highly…

Oil Boiler installation mistake
I am looking for some independent advice/opinions please. I am a landlord, and had a new replacement oil condensing boiler installed in a property in October 2012. It was installed by a professional company, who stated they installed oil boilers, although I later discovered he was gas registered, but not OFTEC registered.…

Drafty Bi-Fold Door Advice Please
Hello! Please may I pick your brains? At the back of our house, we have a kitchen extension with a wide stretch of wooden bi-fold doors across. 5 doors in total, so they stretch probably 4 meters. They were fitted about 8 or 9 years ago (when bi-fold doors were just trendy I guess?) by the previous owners. They look…

Fire place cracked plaster
I recently had my old fireplace replaced. They ripped it out, replastered the chimney breast and put in a gas fire that's inside the chimney. It looks lovely, and I was told not to use it for 4 weeks to allow the plaster to dry. It was finished on the 17th december, and last week I noticed that the plaser had already…

Roofer messed up? (coping stone on parapet wall)
We had a roofer put up some coping stones on a parapet wall around 6 months ago on the extension. 3 weeks ago, one of them fell into Neighbour's garden and then this week the remainder fell into the neighbours garden, luckily no one was hurt. We have had another builder over to fix and he has said two things: 1 - coping…

It eventually turned out to be the lead flashing not done by the…

Fitting a new radiator, and connected flow & return?
So it's a 2 part question. We had a new boiler fitted in a new location. The plumbers left the old flow and return, however they connected them together with a valve. The new boiler connects to the same flow and return but at a different location on the pipes. Is this right, it seems a bit backwards to me, so should we…

Cost of Removing A Load Bearing Wall
Hi, I roughly want to know how much it would be to have a Load Bearing Wall removed to create an open plan kitchen dinning area. The wall is approximately 4.25m long and has electrical sockets. I know this will involve an RSJ, Structural Engineer, and Fittings and Materials charges and a hire of a Skip. Just need a rough…
