Fitted wardrobes

Have had a quote from Sharps and tomorrow were having Hammonds Bedrooms visit to quote too, and wondering if anyone has had any personal experience if either?? Also, has anyone heard if Trend Bedrooms? They're based in Birmingham but appear to only sell to trade or presumably departments store but can't find out anything else. Thanks,

I cannot stress this enough..... DO NOT USE SHARPS! I have had nothing but trouble. Poor fitting, poor quality, even the replacements have turned up damaged. Fitters cancelled at the last minute. It has been a nightmare. I repeat, DO NOT USE SHARPS.0

We had Sharps fit a wall of wardrobes at least 10 or more years ago. They did a good job at the time and we have never had the slightest trouble with them.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

What were the quotes then?...I hear Hammonds cost a fortune.
The great wardrobe MDF rip off!0 -
I had Sharps a few years back, and I thought they were good... but expensive.
A fibreboard wardrobe carcass is £40 from Ikea, and the interior fittings are equally good VFM. Any reasonable DIYer should be able to put it together and fix it to the wall (using battens rather than the silly fittings included).
Last wardrobes I did, I used Ikea carcasses and got some round-edged 2"x1", which I covered in matching sticky plastic, to fill around the edges of the wardrobes and give a more fitted look.0 -
I'm having fitted wardrobes made custom for the loft room, 5m in length. Cost £2k. Expensive but will look amazing.0

Poor experience with Hammonds - would not recommend them to anyone.
Unfortunately we fell for their sales pitch of being the best quality product on the market. Price for 3 wardrobes, a free standing chest of draws and 2 bedside tables was £4,250 (but would have been >£6K without so called discount for early order).
Fitter arrived on the day arranged and he found that several of the doors and panels were damaged and said he'd arrange for them to be replaced (however on closer inspection many other parts were chipped or damaged but eventually never pursued their replacement).
Replacement panels were due to be refitted a couple of weeks later but received a call from Hammonds stating that the replacements had been found to be damaged.
Eventually disassembled units and replaced parts almost exactly one month after initial fitting - during which time could not carry on and decorate room.
Also quality of product was not as we had expected. Base of draws very flimsy and loose - have had to glue them already. Soft close mechanism is awful and far inferior to our recently fitted Howdens kitchen.
We approached Hammonds and said that we were not happy with the inconvenience caused by having to wait so long for replacement panels etc and disappointed by quality. They offered us 1% off bill. I said that a 1% discount was actually an insult to which they escalated it to 2%; I said this was still an insult but they would not budge.
Hence, poor service, poor quality and on reflection very expensive for what we got for the money. Steer clear of Hammonds.0 -
I used a local joiner for one wall in my room and two walls in spare room. He created fittings to suit me, lower rails, shelves etc. He bought pre made sliding doors. £1000. Very happy.0

I did the same only last year. £600 for a 12 foot run of wardrobe, including hanging rails, top shelf and ready made doors to match all the others in the house.0

Can anybody say if Sharps wardrobes come with back panels? We just had a salesman visit today and were initially OK but now having some doubts, especially since reading a lot of very poor reviews. On their own website they say that they can maximise awkward spaces as there's no side or back filler panels, but not sure if that is standard or not. We had assumed there would be a panel but a couple of reviews suggested they just fit a frame direct to the wall without anything else there. Can anybody say what their experience is?0

AVOID Hammonds like the plague!
They like to make out they are the best and you are paying for high end quality.
In reality you end up paying top dollar for shoddy workmanship.
Had bad experience with fitted wardrobes. These are actual pictures of the quality of work which include scratches on the door frames, shoddy cut edges and gaps between parts. They're all nice up to the point they get your money - then they don't want to know! Never again!0
