Socket not working, will it be a fuse??

Just moved into a new house, well new to me. Washing machine and tumble dryer arrived yesterday. Just done a wash and went to use tumble dryer and it didn't work. Unplugged it and tried a new socket and it worked fine.

So it's the socket that is not working (it's one with no on/off switch), do I just have to change a fuse? I didn't want to take the cover off before I knew what to do.

stating the obvious perhaps, but don't take the cover off unless you have isolated the mains to the circuit

is there a switch (labelled) elsewhere for the socket

Don't take the cover off unless you can be sure you have isolated the supply. Are there any other dead sockets nearby? Check your fusebox for any blown fuses or tripped breakers. Isolate the supply before unscrewing any sockets or better still, get a qualified sparky in.

Good point, it could be wired as a fused spur. Is there one of these nearby:

Thanks Crinkmeister, there is one of these above the work surface. Stupidly I did not notice these because I had put something in front of them. They also have switches and Kobe is on and the other off!!! Could explain the problem
