Boiler repairs - am I being taken for a ride?
So I had my boiler fixed yesterday. It needed a new air pressure switch. I paid an arm and a leg for parts and labour, but everything seemed to be working fine. This morning there was a puddle of water (not huge) under the boiler, so I cursed the repair guy for not wiping it up before he left, wiped it up, and thought no…

Background . Lived in property 15 years never had any problems with mould. Flat downstairs and at back do but on first and second floor ive never had any problems. Radflek Radiator Reflectors - A Con?
A hugely popular free giveaway, which is trumpeted here every year. But do they really work? Or is it just a piece of glorified kitchen foil? I'd be particularly interested in views from those who have installed them.

Cheap Underlay or Alternative
I don't really have a budget for this but can anyone suggest any cheap underlay or an alternative? Currently walking on thin carpet, which is directly on the floorboards. The carpet is pretty free in that it hasn't exactly been secured around the edges so should be easy to pull up the lot and start again. Thanks :)

Problem with loft legs
In July I fitted some loft legs with chipboard flooring for a customer after they had the loft insulated. They have called me back because the insulation and the underneath of the chipboard is soaking wet. I am assuming this is because there is no air flow between the insulation and the chipboard. Has anyone else heard of…

Plumbing Help Needed - Water Draining Slowly
The water from our bath is draining really slowly - to the point where it's ankle deep when you have a shower (even a short one). I have long hair but I am careful to place the strands on the side of the bath when washing my hair, and when I rub my fingers around the plughole there's not usually much there. We've unscrewed…

Red neon light blown on HW boiler switch - safe/unsafe?
This happened a few days ago, all I remember is walking past and thinking "Huh, must have switched it off..." and the next day, wondered why we had so much hot water! Since then it's been turned off (not on purpose, we just turn the boiler on for a few hours for washing up). Is it important to get the light replaced asap?…

Loft conversion?
Have moved into my new house (YEY!) and made the school girl error of going into the attic and coming off one of the beams..... Now have a rather fetching hole in the ceiling!!! That's just being fixed now but it's occurred to me that I really should board the attic floor if I plan on going up there - Is it easy enough to…

Situation/Problem: I bought a house this summer and it has a small porch of 1m x 1.5m which as we enter winter is now getting moisture on the walls. It is bare brick externally, and painted plaster on inside with a single 80cm circle window. There are some minor cracks in the paintwork but not flaking off yet. The porch is…

UPVC Window Locking Mechanism Not Working
Hello, As the post states the window locking mechanism is not working on one of my bedroom windows. It is a small window that opens upwards. I have looked at a window that works and when you lock it two bars come out the side of the bottom corners of the window to lock it into position. The handle (on the broken window) is…

Double insulated bathroom lights - are they all expensive?
Our house lighting circuit isn;t earthed so electrician has recommended we choose a bathroom light from double-insulated-lighting.co.uk. However, a plain basic light costs 75 quid!! http://www.double-insulated-lighting.co.uk/altea-0586.html This compares to 5-20 quid for a very similar (non double-insulated) light from…

Free government help for home insulation
I am a home owner of a victorian brick semi detached house. The roof is slate with no felt underlay. The slates will need replacing soon as they are in such a state of age. The previous owners have put some kind of loft floor fibreglass insulation but I am not shure how good it is. We have a combi boiler and open fire but…
