Vinyl and underlay

I went to carpetright a week or so back and ordered some vinyl for the kitchen.
Underlay never even came up in the discussion I knew what I wanted went in and paid for it - job done.

Im now ripping up the old stuff and the floor is not as flat as I thought it would be. It had plastic tiles underneath the vinyl which are in a pretty poor state and you can see from those tiles the floor is not flat.

Im just wondering if I should be lookingat getting underlay or as I never noticed anyway with the old vinyl whether I should just risk it.

We've just had vinyl stuff (like AMtico but different brand) throughout downstairs and our floors are incredibly uneven- they applied self levelling latex first. And in the room with a huge dip (as in several inches), they applied this mixed with some gravel first to fill the dip

You don't put underlay under vinyl. As arbrighton suggests, you will need to rip up the old tiles and then apply a self levelling compound across the floor.

Last time I layed vinyl, I covered the existing uneven floor with 3mm thick hardboard first, I never had a single problem after that, in fact when I decided to change to carpet some years later, I just left the hardboard down :)
