UPVC Window Locking Mechanism Not Working

Hello,

As the post states the window locking mechanism is not working on one of my bedroom windows.

It is a small window that opens upwards. I have looked at a window that works and when you lock it two bars come out the side of the bottom corners of the window to lock it into position.

The handle (on the broken window) is stuck in the locked position and can't be unlocked with the key and the locking bars are (I guess) stuck inside the actual window frame.

Is there a DIY way to fix this or do I have to get the professionals in to fix it? If so any ideas how much it would cost to fix one window?

Many thanks

Chris

  • Can you unscrew the handle to free the locking mechanism? Screws may be hidden by e.g. a small piece of plastic which needs to be leveraged out (using a screwdriver)
  • or if your not that bothered about it locking force the barrel were the key goes with a screw driver .One of the screws for the handle is directly behind were the bar of the handle is so whichever way you need to snap the barrel
if you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction
