Advice sought, survey found few issues
Also posted in Homebuying forum. Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. In the process of selling & buying a 1930's semi I've just had Homebuyers report back and wondered if those in the know think it is worth negotiating on price based on a few level 3 'Defects that are serious and/or need to be repaired, replaced or…

Would you expect work men to clean up afterwards?
Having had 2 jobs finished recently i wondered what other peoples opinions were. When i do a job for someone, i leave things as i found them as best i can. My mum had someone out fitting a new wood burner last year. Messy job but once he'd done the room was spotless. Heard he was a tidy worker & he didn't disappoint. Of…

Eye level grill?
I'm looking for an electric cooker with an eye level grill. They seem to be in short supply these days and even the ones I can find are gas cookers. It's for my elderly M in L who can no longer bend down other waist high grill but can't use gas. Any one know if they are still out there.

Postage stamp price increases from 1st April
Fill your boots now! I still have quite a few from the increase two years ago but will probably look to buy some more. Any 5% or more deals off out there currently?

Anyone have any comments on what is more secure, a run of bifolding doors or the large sliding glass patio doors? Thanks.

Walk-in larder units
Hi I have been looking at a replacement kitchen and I have come across a walk-in larder unit that I really like in Wickes. I was wondering if anyone has come across walk-in larder units from any other kitchen companies? I have decided a walk-in larder unit is a definite must for me, but I don't want to HAVE to buy from…

Are Samsung fridge freezers any good?
Hi. I'm looking for a new fridge freezer as my 4 year old Prestige is starting to die (will not turn itself off) I've reduced my search down to two fridge freezers with the budget I've got (£470) one from Samsung, the other from Bosch. Here's both model numbers; Samsung RB31FERNDSS Bosch KGN34VL20G I'm tempted more to the…

Combi Boiler - Fan life expectancy?
Once again, the boiler has stopped working. Just over 2 years ago, we paid just short of £350 for the Fan in our boiler to be replaced. Once again, the Fan is the cause of the fault (as diagnosed by one engineer) and they want another £370 to replace it again. Its a different firm this time. I am now wondering how long the…

ADT alarm system
Today I rang up to enquire about a home alarm system from ADT, they were keen to give me advice and even came out today. Before I even had time to think about it I'd signed up for their system and a monthly fee. Now thinking about it the system isn't police monitored and the outside box is just a dummy. The system is…

Cupboard in communal area containing power meters - generic key?
So there's a cupboard in the communal hallway of our building that contains everyone's electricity meters. It's locked, but from what I understand it's a generic 'fire brigade' key that's required. I bought a FB2 key from amazon but as soon as I saw it, I knew it wouldn't work. I can describe the keyhole as perfectly…

Kitchen Quote
Can anyone give me an example of a kitchen quote they've had. What I want to see is how detailed the breakdown of the costs are. For example, can you see the price of each door/cabinet/drawer... or do you just usually see the 'kitchen units' price as a whole. Thanks

Fence on Boundary
Hi We have been granted planning permission to build a 4.5m single storey extension to our semi-detached house. There is currently a fence (which we are responsible for) which will need to be taken down and replaced with a wall when work commences. Our neighbour has been difficult in regards to our planning permission so…

Do I need to get an electrician in if swapping ceramic hob for induction
Not sure if this is the right forum, but the new build we will be moving to in hopefully April comes with a ceramic hob, one I'm not too keen on. I've asked the builders if they can put in an induction hob, but they can't offer it. If we swapped this hob over for an induction hob ourselves, would you expect that I would…

power flush, chemical flush or something else...?
hello, apologies for another PF thread- i've had a look at some past threads but i'm still stuck on where to go from here... i had a new combi fitted just over 7 years ago- i can't find the paperwork but iirc a powerflush was done on the system beforehand. neither the radiators or the pipes leading to them were replaced. i…

The whistling dishwasher.
Got a Bosch slimline dishwasher used daily and just five years old, this last few days it has started making a loud whistling sound at random times during it's cycle (not sure of the tune) the machine is still working perfectly well, no leaks have appeared (yet) and have checked all the obvious things such as water inlet,…

Recommendations for spray sealant for copper pipe
Hi all, Can anyone recommend a spray-on sealant for a very very minor leak in a copper pipe? It's at a joint, and it is a matter of sealing it temporarily. I got a bit overwhelmed by choice when I looked in B&Q and I'm not sure what I ought to be using. Thank you.

engineered wood floor fixed or floating?
About to build an extension and as part of that we're getting engineered wood floors throughout most of the downstairs. Apparently if we want it fixed to the new extension floor we need to wait a couple of months or so to let the concrete dry (a day per mm) I'm assuming fixed is a better option, don't really like the sound…

Where to buy greenhouse glass sheets?
Hi Folks Due to the recent bad weather, one of my glass sheets on my greenhouse cracked. It is not ‘proper’ glass, so could anybody tell me the proper name for it? Where could I buy a sheet for a reasonable price on line? Are the sizes standard? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Shared/Party Roof Valley issue
OK so I have a dilema in that the lead valley in between my semi detached and the adjoining one is cracked and letting in water. I've had a roofer quote who says £1,800. I've contacted the neighbour and told him, he doesn't live there as he lets it out but hi tenant has also confirmed water coming in their upper wall…

Back Boiler to Combi Boiler
I live in East Lothian and I have a 23 year old Baxi Bermuda boiler. I know from the efficiency ratings online that this boiler is costing me a tonne of money on my gas bill. I had a guy come round the door explaining this to me, even though I knew already as I'd tried to get the governments free boiler, which I obviously…
