engineered wood floor fixed or floating?

About to build an extension and as part of that we're getting engineered wood floors throughout most of the downstairs.

Apparently if we want it fixed to the new extension floor we need to wait a couple of months or so to let the concrete dry (a day per mm)

I'm assuming fixed is a better option, don't really like the sound of floating..

any thoughts?

The only one I installed was floating, but why are you worried?

Ours is floating, in a large extension on a concrete floor. Been down about 8 years with no problems.

Ours is Kahrs. Still looks great.

Why are you assuming that fixed is a better option...and why dont you like the sound of floating?

Is it based on the fact that you think a floating floor will wobble?....

lol, yeah I guess so! is that not an issue then?

what are the disadvantages of floating?

Thanks, will look into it as I really don't want to wait so long before getting the floor finished.

Aren't you going to fully let it dry before fitting a floating floor then?

I don't know. From what I understand glueing it down requires a long drying out time. I have no idea about floating. From what my builder said I thought the drying out time was an issue mainly for the fixed option.

My builder said a couple of weeks the guy who did the screed said wait 8 weeks so take advice from the flooring manufacturer.

Maybe less with the floating floor if your laying a polythene sheet first.

so it sounds like we may as well lay it floating then

    Are there any downsides?

Some say it doesn't look the same as real wood.

It does only have about 3mm of real wood so you can only refinish it a couple of times.
