Has anyone read 'The Toothbrush Principle'?
Just wondered if anyone has this book, it's by Sheila Chandra. I've read some good reviews of it. I think the main idea of the book is to put things close to where you use them and then putting items straight back after you've used them. Having just decorated all our bedrooms, I'm looking for ways of organising them more…

Laying ceramic floor tiles?
Has anyone experience of laying such tiles over old vinyl tiles that are flat and in good condition? What adhesive might do it? I realise this is not ideal, but would save a lot of labour and time. The doors ( five) are already trimmed to accommodate the carpet I have removed.

Wooden kitchen worktop advice please...
Are there any things I need to be aware of before making this decision? I know they require a bit of extra care but how much is that? And how easily do they stain or scratch? And is there a certain quality or things I would be looking at before choosing a worktop? Prices seem to vary? Would this be reflected of "quality"…

Washing Machine Door
The door on my Indesit Washer Dryer will not lock shut. The door is fixed in the right position, as is the seal. The metal clip appears to be moving backwards and forwards as it should, and it enters the hole ok. But it will not lock into position, and therefore I cannot work the machine. Any ideas gratefully received.

Banisters - Advice Needed!
Hi In my new home, there is an old set of banisters that are varnished fairly dark, and despite having washed and cleaned them, sort of give off a bit of stickiness to the touch... So, I'm wondering whether I should remove the varnish (with varnish remover or sand them down?) and try to lighten up the look of them with a…

Wiring in a double oven
Hello all, We have a double oven that is ready to be wired in to a separate cooker feed. My Dad, who is a bit old school, tried to do it for us, but wasn't 100% sure on what it was telling us to do, so left it. He had only wired in single ovens and not double, so I don't know if that makes a difference. In his experience,…

Not sure if this is the right section, apologies if it isn't. I have bought a house which was an ex-council house (The previous owner bought the house from the council). Laminate worktops over 96 cm depth
Okay so I'm an idiot. Anyone know of any? I've ordered my kitchen from Wren and have now discovered that my breakfast bar is not your average 900mm but an extra 5cm in depth. But I can't seem to locate a worktop which covers my cupboards. Doh! I could just go with wren but they have a VERY small range. I will call around…
