DIY DVDs

Can anyone recommend a good DIY DVD? I want to be able to fix things myself (including basic electrical problems) and think a good DVD would be helpful.
thank you.

Just use youtube - everything you need on that, or any one of the squillion DIY websites, or even a good DIY book like Collins or Readers Digest.

  • thanks Olias. I worry about the accuracy of youtube videos, how can you tell the good ones from the bad ones?
  • Check for ones with lots of views and out of those the ones that have lots of "green" votes - something like 100 likes, 4 dislikes.

The B&Q DIY book is great: http://www.amazon.co.uk/You-Can-Step---Step-Improvement/dp/0500515514/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1313146795&sr=1-1

    What she said^^^^^!

ALso avoid the USA ones, they'll just confuse you!

Seriously, I found the best thing is a really good DIY book. The quality ones like Collins or RD (can't vouch for B&Q as I haven't seen it) are worth their weight in gold and give detailed step by step instructions with clear pictures and diagrams. You can also have it open while you work, for reference, which you can't with a DVD!

If you have a Wickes nearby, they used to have a range of 'how do I...' leaflets available which were free. I think they still do them, and are usually located near the entrance.

    +1

Particularly for electrical and maybe plumbing, these should be avoided.
