Wall hung electric fire recommendations please
I'm after an electric wall hung fire. I've looked at quite a few in local stores and some of them are nice but very noisy when the heat is switched on. Has anyone bought one that is quiet? I quite like the ones that have LED backlights too. Thanks for any tips.

Money saving new home: where to start?
Thanks to the the threads by you lovely people on MSE, I am now the proud owner of a breadmaker (morphy richards), slow cooker, steamer, large freezer, and monthly meal planner. I move in with my boyfriend to our lovely new home (barn conversion on farm) on November the 8th and I want to start off on the right foot right…

Real wood flooring samples
Can anyone recommend sites / stores who will provide samples? Having stripped the walls of wallpaper - all 4 layers  I'm now looking into picking paint colours, but would like to be able to check the wood floor to compliment too. Am I going to be harassed to purchase if I request samples? Thanks C*F

Fireplace hearth with laminate floor, ideas please
We've just put a laminate floor down in the lounge and obviously there is an expansion gap between the floor and current hearth which is just plain tiles. We are not keen on the tiles, so don't mind covering/losing them, any ideas on the best way to hide the gap or cover the lot (yes, we have considered the big slab of…

New Shower
Hi, I'd welcome any advice. I live in a small terraced house which was built in the 1970s and has (I strongly suspect!) the orgininal bathroom fittings. It has a small and always highly unimpressive (BerrySpray) shower over the foot of the bath, which died last week in circumstances involving a hot smell and the tripping…

If I can't repair my window hinges and locks I'll have to replace them. I wondered if anyone has recommendations of who to go to, or who to avoid - quality and price. I live in the north east (County Durham.) Thanks

Double Glazed Windows - fitting new hinges and handles
My doulble glazed windows are fine, except that in a couple of windows, the hinges are bent out of shape, meaning the windows won't close properly. Also, the handles are broken. Any ideas please? I'd rather not have to replace the windows. Thanks

Suggestions to improve my shower
Dear Moneysavers, I would be much obliged if someone could suggest ways to improve my shower. The current shower is a mixer tap over the bath. The cold water pressure is good. The hot water comes from a gravity fed system which is heated by a Potterton Flamingo 40. The hot water tank is in the same bathroom as the shower…

Extractor fan - going slighty mad
I am replacing an bathroom extractor fan with one than has a humidistat. Simple job, or so it seems, just a Neutral, Live, and Switched Live wires to plug in. It should come on when the light is on and stay on either until the timer ends or the humidity falls, whichever is longest. However, unfortunately it comes on when…

Electric shower advice please
OK, had an electric shower for about 8 years. Was good for a few years but now it just kind of dribbles (though quite a big dribble, just that there are no individual jets of water). So, is it time for a new shower or is there a simpler fix? Also, I'm very jealous of the showers I've seen in other peoples houses that have…

Laminate - possible to fit with raised wooden "divider" in the floor?
Hopefully this makes sense - if I'm still struggling to explain it I'll try to find the camera and upload a picture. We're about to buy a house and cream carpets and a black cat are not good for one's sanity. I want to fit the aged-wood type look laminate (as opposed to the generic Ikea-styleee) stuff downstairs. Room was…
