We've just put a laminate floor down in the lounge and obviously there is an expansion gap between the floor and current hearth which is just plain tiles.
We are not keen on the tiles, so don't mind covering/losing them, any ideas on the best way to hide the gap or cover the lot (yes, we have considered the big slab of granite - expensive - option, hence me asking for other ideas!)

PS The floor and the tiles are pretty much level.

You could try a hearth pad - depends on shape / size of the area you need covering.
Something like this thing here - slate effect, not that expensive.
If you google am sure you'll find other sizes / prices0 -
I bought a dado rail and edged around my hearth tiles which covered the gap great and really sets fire surround off as stained it to match (backfilled any remaining gaps with cement). Cheap option but looks fantastic! :j0
