DOuble Glazing and Cladding Question
Getting quotes to replace 13 windows, 2 sets of french doors, 1 back door and 5 infill panels = loads of dosh. As with all things quotes vary. I am currently leaning toward a company that fitted the windows in my old place. This company has provided the most expensive quote some £400 more than their nearest competitor but…

This really works
Wouldn't it be a good idea to have to have a section on this forum for people to recommend or disrecommend products or equipment that really work and are worth buying, or indeed the opposite.I am happy to kick off recommending the Gtech cordless sweeper which seems to work on all sorts of floors. It is very lightweight,…

Shower and flooring quandry
Hello all We moved into our house 5 months ago and we have a separate shower cubicle in the bathroom. We found out after moving in that it has leaked quite badly over quite a while so the floorboards have become quite damp (we have silverfish in there) and there are damp patches and bubbling where water has come through…

bathroom window regs?
can anyone advise me? are there any building regs regarding the position of a window over a bath/shower? you know what it's like in a modern house, it's almost impossible to have a shower positioned away from the window due to the size of the room! currently we have just a bath but i'm thinking of fitting a shower over.

Can I convert cooker terminal to 13A plug socket?
Having replaced my electric cooker with a gas one, the electric terminal behind the cooker is no longer in use, but I have to plug in my new cooker to a nearby socket. The unused terminal is on its own circuit, and I was wondering if it is possible to convert it to a standard socket so that I can use it only for the cooker…

Dishwasher cycle getting longer
I have a dishwasher bought 5 months ago - a John Lewis-branded AEG Electrolux slimline. If I run it on "Auto" cycle it takes about an hour and a half (the length of the cycle is shown on a digital display when I press the "Auto" button at the start of the cycle). The cycle length on the Auto setting varies slightly from…

Electrical socket problem
Hi there, Hope someone can help with this query. Had a new washing machine delivered yesterday. Plugged it in today for first time and there was a big "bang" and the fuse at the fuse board had blown - flicked down. Light Pipe
Can anyone recommend a good one? There seem to be a few companies selling them. I want one for an inner hall in a bungalow which has a glass door at one end but is quite dark at the other. Hall is 1.2m by 5m and the position where I would like to put the pipe is almost directly under the roof ridge so I probably need about…

Brick fireplaces
I'm not particularly proficient in this area, but have toyed with the idea of replacing our electric fire with a proper brick fireplace. Do I need special bricks for this job and if so, are they readily available? The fireplace is there, the chimney is open, but has a really ugly electric fire just "slotted" in. Thanks for…
