What length ?
What height ?
Will the wall be retaining any ground ?0 -
thanks for getting abck to me ...approx 2-3ft in height and 10-15 feet in length it would be to hold the earth in so that i can grow herbs etc just using breeze block or something cheapish...cheers0

Breeze blocks will look horrible they never mellow.........
Probably easier and quicker for the DIYer to use timber.
Use 'Tanalised' treated timber for your local builders merchant not DIY store (too expensive).
It will last 25 years or more.
Stain it with a dark oak Cuprinol or Lumberjack type woodstain should look great.0 -
do you know i never even thought of wood thanks will look into that will it be strong enough to hold in the earth ? ...would i need a kindve foundation thing0

All tanalised timber
Get some 3 inch x 3 inch posts and make sure you knock or dig them about 2 foot into the ground about 3 foot apart. Dont knock them thro your gas pipe obviously !!!!
Get some 4 inch x 1.5 inch board bolt it to the outside of the posts using coach bolts. So you cant see the posts.
Stain it then fill in with soil behind the boards.....should be a good job
As long as you are not going more than 2 - 3 foot high 1.5 inch boards will be OK or you could use 2 inch ones.
Also dont space the posts too far apart or the boards will 'belly' out0 -
thanks will let hubby know the good news that he's now a carpenter lol ...think it will be easier and less costly this way ....much appreciated0
