building a wall

hey guys and gals,
looking for a wee bit of advice ...were trying to do a bit of work in our garden and i really want to grow some veg etc ...i have a lovely (well not quite but hopefully will be) bit at the side of my house that my hubby is currently clearing for me ...i really want a herb garden there...but need to build a wall as the rest of the land is gonna be used to park up a trailer so can anyone give me a quick a-z on how to build a wall or even direct me to where i should look ...trying not to get a builder in as money is tight nearly debt free and want to try and stay that way ....any help really appreciated...cheers

    thanks for getting abck to me ...approx 2-3ft in height and 10-15 feet in length it would be to hold the earth in so that i can grow herbs etc just using breeze block or something cheapish...cheers

    Breeze blocks will look horrible they never mellow.........
    Probably easier and quicker for the DIYer to use timber.
    Use 'Tanalised' treated timber for your local builders merchant not DIY store (too expensive).
    It will last 25 years or more.
    Stain it with a dark oak Cuprinol or Lumberjack type woodstain should look great.

    do you know i never even thought of wood thanks will look into that will it be strong enough to hold in the earth ? ...would i need a kindve foundation thing

    All tanalised timber
    Get some 3 inch x 3 inch posts and make sure you knock or dig them about 2 foot into the ground about 3 foot apart. Dont knock them thro your gas pipe obviously !!!!
    Get some 4 inch x 1.5 inch board bolt it to the outside of the posts using coach bolts. So you cant see the posts.
    Stain it then fill in with soil behind the boards.....should be a good job
    As long as you are not going more than 2 - 3 foot high 1.5 inch boards will be OK or you could use 2 inch ones.
    Also dont space the posts too far apart or the boards will 'belly' out
