I've bought a secon hand fireplace for my living room but I need a hearty, preferably in slate. Anyone got any odeas where I can get one for a good price?

Perhaps try a local reclamation yard, ebay or ask on freecycle. You may like to check with your local monumental (funeral headstones etc) stonemason if they have a slab of anything suitable.
If no luck, why not plan to spend a long Bank Holiday weekend in Wales and buy one direct from the quarry.0
