Retention - leasehold sale not returned
I wondered if anyone had experience with Retentions. Basically when we sold our flat in April 2013 we had to leave a £670 retention in case of additional service charge fees for the period the accounts hadn't be done. These were supposed to be released to us once the accounts were done. We never heard anything back so left…

Renting Worries
I'm hoping someone can help answer a question for a friend of mine. They're currently renting a property privately - not through an estate agent. Their landlord still has his post sent to the property they're renting (They've been there for over 7 years). Recently they opened one of his letters which was from his mortgage…

Rent to buy
Just curious on how rent to buy works, I've seen a local property advertised on this basis, and google results tend to point towards a newish scheme on new property whereby rent is lower than average to enable you to save up to buy the house. This property I've seen is not a new build and so wondering if same still…

Following up viewings?
I currently have my house on the market (Scotland) and have had 3 viewings - done by myself - in 3 months. All seemed keen (I know that people can do this!) - however, my EA has not actually spoken to any of the viewers re feedback citing no reply to her messages. As an ex sales person myself, I feel that more effort…

Any Suggestions?
My son and his GF have seen a house they would like to buy. They have saved £10,000. We are in a position to lend them the money. They could offer cash for the property and have the benefit of getting it cheaper. We get very little interest on our money in the bank and have no need to spend it. We want to help them out.…

Quick sale query and qualms
Does anyone have any experience (as a seller/vendor of a house) of dealing with Springbok Properties? Quick sales specialists - but they did not come up with a ridiculously low price as feared but suggested a price very much in line with my own thinking. Their all-in-one fee (includes marketing and legal costs) of £5k is a…

Failed environmental search on new build
Hey, I am currently going through the process of buying a new build flat in London and it has failed environmental searches for flooding and subsidence. My solicitor is now trying to get me to take out an insurance policy for around £300. I am confused as to why a new build would fail this in the first place plus my flat…

Should I buy a flat in London right now?
I've got 100k deposit and am thinking of investing in a 2 bed property for around £450-500k. I'm a first time buyer so I'm currently wasting lots of cash on rent (1200 per month.) I'd probably buy in East London (Hackney/Finsbury Park etc). Would this be financial suicide or is it a great time to buy right now? Thoughts?
