I have found the deeds to a property I sold 8 years ago!
Help! After having a good clearout I have come across a large envelope containing the deeds to a property I sold 8 years ago! I now remember the solicitor sending them to me when I bought that house in 2000. But I obviously was never asked about them when I sold the property. They have been in the bottom of a box in the…

Should I be their guarantor?
My sister and her boyfriend of 4 years are in the process of renting their first place together and I've been helping them at viewings etc to give them a bit of confidence. (They've both been living with respective parents up until now) They've found their dream flat and have started proceedings with the agent to secure…

How easy is it to get a mortgage with previously bad credit history?
If bad credit supposedly drops off your credit report in 6 years does than mean by that time my credit rating would be back to normal? Would I then have the same chance of being accepted for a mortgage as someone who has never gotten into debt? Sorry just realised I've posted this on the wrong board! I'll ask here anyway

Flat rented - unfair room prices
Hi My girlfriend has just moved into a 2 bedroom flat which she was quite happy with. She's going to paying £313 per month for a fairly small room with a single bed and no desk (she's a nursing student) but it's a nice little flat in a good location. She's not quite so happy now as she has discovered that the girl in the…

Evicting my lodger
A bit of background. I took in a lodger in November 2009 under the rent a room scheme and she signed a 6 month tenancy agreement. During this time she paid her rent in full each month. She moved out in May 2010 as she had been offered a job in another part of the country. The job fell through, she had no-where else to go…

Alternative ways of putting together a deposit..
Just wondering if anyone can come up with any bright ideas... I have a rental property (160k) which I don't want to/can't afford to sell. LTV is 75% and bank won't allow me to extend borrowing as they won't go to more than 75% on a rental property. I'm currently renting elsewhere (another town altogether) and have found a…

New Home Mortgages Helpline...dodgy?
Hi, We've agreed a sales price to buy a new build with Bellway Homes. Apparently it is their policy to refer customers to them (New Homes Mortgages Helpline) to see if they can source us a better mortgage deal. Having spent a whole day running around town, we finally decided to go with the Principality Building…

I had already taken the book with…

Indemnity Insurance?
Hi there Viewed a house recently where the back garden (a small patio) doesn't actually 'belong' to the property. It is a sectioned off bit of the communal garden, which is owned by one of the houses in the row. The vendor said they have indemnity insurance for this, and that they had had no issues with the land in the…

Where to buy a property in London
I'm a first-time-buyer looking to buy in London and trying to work out where the best places are to invest in property in London. I'd prefer to be North or East if possible but at this stage I'm open to suggestions if it means the value of the property is likely to sky-rocket in years to come. Areas I've heard may be good…

Shorthold Tenancy - Notice Period
Once the initial period (i.e. 6/12 months) is finished, and it goes onto a month by month rolling contract where the tenants have to give 1 months notice to move out, does this notice have to coincide with the rent period (i.e. the rent is payable monthly on the 15th, so would you have to give 1 months notice on/before…
