I have found the deeds to a property I sold 8 years ago!

Help! After having a good clearout I have come across a large envelope containing the deeds to a property I sold 8 years ago! I now remember the solicitor sending them to me when I bought that house in 2000. But I obviously was never asked about them when I sold the property. They have been in the bottom of a box in the loft.
What shall I do with them, I would drop them off at the house but I know it is now rented out so would end up in the wrong hands.
Please let me know what I should do with them.

They are of historic value only now as the title will have been registered when you sold. You can just bin them or keep them for sentimental reasons.
If the house is old then personally I think binning them is a waste as they may contain interesting plans etc of the area when the house was built. Of course if this is a 1960s semi then there really is no historic value!0 -
Pass them on to the owner.0

It's a 1900's terrace so they are very interesting! I would like to pass them to the owner but like I said I don't know who that is and I know the house is rented out. I can't imagine the people renting it out would pass to the owner not looking at the state the house is in now!0

You can get the owners name and address from the land registry (it will cost you GBP4).0

if you write to the owner, they should forward the letter.
or perhaps ask your solicitor.0 -
Just had a search through more housey stuff and come across the address of the man that bought the house, will write to him and see if I get a response. Thanks very much.0

They may just be a copy of the deeds. That would explain why your solicitor never asked for them back.0 -
oooh no they are the originals all the dead old stuff is on really brown old paper!0

The house probably was first registered at the Land Registry when you purchased it. That means the deeds are now unnecessary and only for interesting historical details. The Land Registry issues its own simple document when selling property now. It would be nice to keep them with the house, or maybe a neighbour may be interested in having them.0
