Should I try to negotiate rent down?
Hi everyone, We're currently in a rolling month-on-month rental contract on our house. It's a very nice house and we like it a lot. We'd like to sign up to stay for at least another 12 months (my other half is going to be doing an MA). Basically, the rent is not bad, but given the current climate I figured it would be…

Is it worth improving house to sell?
I live in the North West and want to sell up and retire to the Sw. I love my house but it could benefit from improvements-ranging from general "tarting up" such as redecorating, new carpets, tidying up the garden-to more expensive projects like new central heating, new bathrooms and kitchen, new garage roof. Is it worth…

Effect on property value - carpet vs laminate
Hypothetically, if you took a flat with wood-effect laminate flooring throughout, and you replaced it with (cheap) carpet, what would be the effect on the value of the property? i.e. would it increase or decrease and by what sort of percentage?

House/Flat Sharing
Hi, I'm moving down to Bristol in August, my plan is to find a house to share, both in order to save a bit of money and to meet people as I don't know anyone down there at the moment! I've been looking at gumtree and spareroom.co.uk, does anyone know of anywhere else I could/should be looking? Thanks!

Getting back deposit from LA
Hi, We moved into a flat in September 2005 and paid £1,025 as a deposit, renewing the AST in Sept 2006 and 2007. Before we moved out the LA really started messing us around, gas boiler was condemned for producing CO by Transco but they just told us to open the windows as carbon monoxide was "normal" in a house with gas,…

Hi I have just had an offer accepted on a house and am looking to arrange a full structural survey (FSS) as the house is over 100 years old. Missing deed indemnity policy?
I have recently purchased a house and the conveyancing is currently going through my solicitor. I was told there was a missing deed and that I would require a missing deed indemnity policy. As far as I know, the missing deed is a part of land that is behind the house, outside the garden and can be used for parking. The…

Deposit not held as bond - what does that mean for us
In June 07 we moved into private rented accommodation under an Assured Shorthold Tenancy, and provided a month's rent as deposit. A while back I became employed by our landlord and all was well. Recently though the farm I work on (that he owns) is clearly beginning to falter, and I am considering finding another job while…

Can they raise price after offer accepted?
We put an offer in on a house - it was accepted on the condition that they found somewhere to live - so they were basically saying that they aren't going to move out to please us and we shouldn't get solicitors or surveyors involved until the chain was in place. Fine. So, this was three weeks ago. Today estate agent calls…

property ladder assistance for child
Hi, Can anyone tell me if it is viable for me, the father, to buy a property on an interest only mortgage, to then sell it at a later date for no profit to my daughter when she and her husband can afford it. They will be paying the interest only payments until that time, assuming it took 5 years and the recession was over,…
