My wee house buying rant!
I put an offer in on a repossession about 6 weeks ago now - we were told we had to be able to complete in 4 weeks (which we were able to do!) And his solicitors / accountants are bloomin rubbish! We were told the property was freehold and we found out this week it isn't - so we now need to check if the ground rent is up to…

Buying a Repossession
I have recently got an offer on my property and am interested in a house that has been repossessed. This is new territory for me and I wondered if anyone could advise me of the problems in buying this type of property. I know I am asking a lot but I am guessing their are a number of issues to consider. Thanks Liz

Buy-to-Let good idea or not?
Any information from anyone about whether in the current climate a buy to Let is a good idea if you have the deposit to get you on the property ladder for now? Any information would be great.

Please help with some advice on moving costs
Hi all, Please can someone give me some advice here as i don't know what would work out to be the cheapest option. I would love to do the first option (see below) as it'll be someone we know and can take a bit more time but i don't want costs to spiral as we are on a very tight budget. 1st option - hire a 7.5T truck…

help! what to offer....
We've seen a house we want in North London. It's in an area we'd really like to live in but most properties there are out of our price range or not suitable. This area has not been affected as badly as other parts of London since it's a very pleasant and popular area. The reason the price is lower than average is because…

to renovate or walk away?
had bad news from surveyor today, the house we've offered on he feels needs the downstairs floors lifting and replacing. He can't tell us why it's damp... there is a small amount of standing water by the skirting boards on the original quarry tiled floor which I was concerned about and hoped he could shed light on, but he…

Tenancy Agreement Question
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me with my notice period on my tenancy? I entered an AST in November 2007 and after the 6 months I assume this became a periodic tenancy. I pay my rent monthly. I am trying to determine the notice period I will need to give. The clause in the AST says "If the tenant intends to vacate at the…

Acknowledgement (to seller) from EA after completion?
Maybe an odd question, but this is the first house that we have sold... completed middle of last week and not a word from our Estate Agent - nothing. Not sure what I was expecting, but... The EA's fees were paid directly out of the proceeds of the sale by the Solicitor: so I guess they got their money and that's that....…

Flat Dilema - share with girlfriend and best friend?
I'm starting an MA course in September and also due to move in with my girlfriend. We'll both be students so money will be scarce so I'm thinking of asking a friend to take a second room rather than go for a one bed flat. We'd save valuable money, but would we regret having a lodger and less privacy? I've known my friend…

New Build True Value??
I have today looked at a new build by accident!! I went to view a house last week that is perfect for us but the vendor wont take a drop in price. When to look at the show houses on the same development to see if looking at the show home would encourage me to pay full asking for the other one - i.e. good design ideas.…

Garden land: estimated cost
This is not strictly a question about houses, but property related and I couldn't find anywhere more suitable to post. There is a triangular plot of land (approx. 50ft x 50ft x 25ft) behind my house that the property behind owns. They can no longer maintain it and I am interested in buying it. There are no services to the…

My wife and I are trying to buy our gramps house to help pay for his care now he is in a home. The house has been valued by a chartered surveyor at £175k, which is a little out of our price range. Comparing Sold prices with Asking prices
Is there a website that compares sold prices with the corresponding asking prices at the time? It's a pain that the sold prices are always published months behind the sale date, by which time you've forgotten what was being asked. I'm trying to get information together on prices in the area that we are trying to buy in...…
