General FTB question - houses seem too cheap!
Hi all. As everyone says, I've been reading these forms for a while but never got around to registering. My OH and I are 22, married and currently renting, and both have a considerable commute to our jobs. (We got work where we could, which was around 2 hours apart, and are living in the middle.) We're thinking of changing…

I know I don't have to be here for them to come in, however I will be and won't appreciate this…

Noise-what does the law say?
Currently renting and we have had "drum and bass" aka "racket", all night from upstairs. This is obviously unacceptable but what exactly does the law say about excessive noise-time wise especially-is there a certain time at night/morning when music etc should be switched off-forewarned is forearmed! Thank you.
- OMG, Why do people do these things?

Tax implications if renting main residence and paying rent elsewhere
 My mother (age 82) wants to move to a retirement flat. As she is having problems selling her flat which she owns 100%, my plan is that I buy the retirement flat through an extension to my mortgage (agreed by my bank). My mother would then rent out her flat (her main residence). She would pay me a contribution to…

Unlawful Agents And Landlords
I've been very unlucky with these! The first company were bad.... When I lived in Hitchin in 2006 the landlords decided they wanted to move back in although we'd been led to believe we'd could stay there for a year, not 6 months, then they became increasingly difficult. The landlords then threw out some of our items…

Housemate left without any notice
Hi I had a lodger until recently. About a week before Christmas he just left leaving the key without any notice or reason. He hasn't paid the rent for December. Is there anyway I can pursue the outstanding monies off him. I have retained the deposit, but there was an accident with the TV which was agreed the deposit would…

Spot the problem
WOULD you even look at a house with this - unusual - layout? Or would you assume the EAs had got it wrong? http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-11047908.html?backToListURL=%2Fuser%2Fshortlist.html%3Ftype%3DBUYING I think it's been on the market for a year or more, and the 'relisting' on RM is a con. But…

Noise problems in rented property
(Please feel free to shift this if it's in the wrong place) Now, this isn't the usual noise issue (i.e. moronic neighbours) but it's similar. The property is a newly built (1 year old, coming up to) purpose built 4 storey block of flats. We are having HUGE issues with the noise from the people upstairs - when I say noise,…

Want to move out after 3 weeks!!
Hey guys, As the title says: "I want to move out 3 weeks after starting my tenancy". The reasons being (in short!): Had no hot water + heating for 2 weeks. We believe this has secondary flooding! The boiler DID get replaced - however... we had to fork out cost's for heaters just so our son could sleep in a warm room. (7…

House Viewing - can I take photos?
OH & I are househunting and are booked in to view 5-6 properties tomorrow. Is it OK to take photos of rooms in these houses so I can review when I get back home ? Of course, I'll ask the owners' permissions, but wondered whether it is what people 'do' these days when viewing?? My memory is not what it used to be anymore

*&%$$*$!! Letting Agents :-(
Bloody useless letting agents. I handed over a big wodge of cash this morning and got the front door key to the new house. 'Where's the garage key and back door key ?' - 'err...probably in the kitchen'. Eventually we found them with the landlord at lunchtime. The letting agent promised to fit a fridge freezer, washing…

My Renting Hell - Long
You may remember that some time ago I posted regarding a fixed tenancy problem that I was having due to the amount of bad things happening whilst I was in the property. Just as an update, I have managed to get pretty much no further than I left you all with in August. Search my previous posts for the background. However, I…
