Renting - what to look for?
Hi all, my partner and I are about to move in together. I haven't rented for years (back with parents) and I don't think OH has ever rented. So when we go for viewings/talk to agents what do we need to be watchful for? Inside/outside the house and/or dodgy practices by agents? Thanks C xx

Exchange and complete on same day
Following my recent thread on my gazundering drama, its looking like my sale and purchase will end up both having exchange and completion on the same day (in about 2 weeks time) How have others in the same boat gone about organising things like notifying utilities, phone companies, etc. Obviously I don't want to end up in…

Home in country/on coast
Right, at some point in the future we intend to sell our Spanish home and our house in the UK Midlands and buy somewhere on the UK coast/country. We are willing to consider anywhere, but need to keep within budget, so does anyone know of a website where we can search on price rather than location? Thanks!

No Gas! Should I Pay Rent?
If you read my previous post you'll see that we have had lots of problems with our landlord, first he fitted a boiler, he wasn't corgi registered so we got someone to inspect it and it was infact a dodgey job, so he had to get it replaced by a Corgi Official. Now the corgi guy came out done the new job, and all was well…

Should The Council Change The Locks ?
My mum recently accepted the tenancy of a sheltered housing flat nearby. There was a quite significant delay between the offer being accepted and the keys being handed over and we have since found out that it was because they had lost them. The Housing Officer visited my mum and explained they had been lost and my mum was…

Selling - is this negotiation ok?
I'm a first-time seller, selling my house to a first-time buyer. Their surveyor discovered a chimney breast isn't adequately supported - it is still in the loft but has been removed from the room below. 2 builders have advised that an RSJ is needed, and building regs should pass the work. Buyer's solicitor says I must have…

C&G Mortgage Offer
Hi, Has anyone recently taken out a mortgage with C&G, if so can you advise how long it took for the mortgage offer to come through after the valuation/survey. So, House Prices can't fall uh?
http://www.permanenttsb.ie/news/default.asp?nid=551 The article above discusses House Price falls in Ireland, not far away from us really, and maybe the UK should learn some lessons quickly about speculative markets, which the housing market has turned into (Homes into Investment properties). With the threat of this global…

If there is a crash...
My thread seems to have disappeared so apologies if you've read this already. I know very little economics so bear with me if this is a stupid question... If there was a crash, which individuals, if any, would benefit. I'm not referring to organisations, just individuals. Assuming that interest rates were still relatively…

Finding owner of derelict property
I've seen a tumbled down, stone built mill near to where I live and I'm interested to see if the owner would be interested in selling it. By the state of it, it has obviously been derelict for a few decades so the owner obviously has no great interest in it. The problem is how to find out who owns it. I have been in touch…

Buying on designated flood plain
I've recieved a homebuyers report on a 1st floor apartment I'm buying. It states that the property is on a designated flood plain. The building was flooded in the awful torrent of rain in late June (near Sheffield). I have looked into what it means to be on a flood plain and it states that the chance of being flooded is…
