Typical Edinburgh estate agency fees?
Hello all Was wondering if anyone has any idea of what Edinburgh agents might be charging? I have read the advice in the stickies above, but as most Edinburgh property viewings seem to be by open-house with little involvement by the agent, I am wondering if perhaps they have a lower fee than elsewhere. (Probably wishful…

Simultaneous Exchange/Completion... Erk!
Well, the completion date is set for this Friday, but we've been forced into a simultaneous exchange and completion as our buyers have no deposit (in fact, they are borrowing 102%). As we have equity in our house and our buyers have no savings to their name, our solicitor said that he simply could not allow us to exchange…

stamp duty...why is it? and not like this?
with stamp duty..its in levels.. from houses from £0 to £125,000 = 0 % £125,001- £250,000 = 1% Over £250,000- £500,000 3% Over £500,000 4% why isn't it like our tax system.. e.g, if the house is 150,000 ..= 150,000-125,000 = 25,000 therefore 25,000 x 1% = £250 and so on.. what do u think?

Sorry to ask another survey question but we are in the process of hopefully buying a repossession which was built in the 1970's. We had decided to just have the valuation which is taking place this Friday but we are now having doubts as to whether we should change this to a homebuyers report. The reason we didnt choose…

Renting out my house
At the minute this is a hypothetical question, but I'd be interested in the answer. I currently own my own house, but am considering moving to a different country to get a job. I would like to keep my house, as I may return one day (that is if I can afford it). I was thinking of renting my house out while I was away, and…

Some good news....
I spoke with the local housing association who are going to offer us the shared ownership in a house we viewed last week. I'd been worrying as my OH has a couple of defaults on his credit file but was sure that his name would need to be on the mortgage as I believed the property was being offered to us under the keyworker…

How do you work out what to offer
I have seen a house that I would like to put an offer on. From the other houses on the road it seems a little bit over the asking price of the other houses but it has a bigger garden. The house is really outdated though. Really old kitchen, bathroom, old fitted cabinets in bedrooms. No double glazing. Everything would have…

Huge rant, not our debt!!
Hi there - not sure what I'm hoping to gain by writing this, but having a rant sure makes me feel better! A brief background: My partner and I bought our first house in July this year. It all went through reasonably smoothly, a few hiccups with the survey but all was sorted to our satisfaction. The house is an ex council…
