Seller moving abroad, better position for bargain?
The seller of a property I am loking at is moving abroad to go back to their family. I would imagine that this makes them keen to sell and might be willing to jump at a reasonable offer. I'm thinking about offering 10k less than the asking price on a 140k property. Does this sound realistic?

Paying 5% deposit on exchange?
I'm confused this is my third house purchase and something different has come up. The Solicitors are saying 'it is customary' to pay some money on the day of exchange when of course all our money is tied up in the sale proceeds. They want the difference between: the 5% deposit from our Buyer and the 5% deposit on our…

Have I offered too much
I've put in an offer for a house in a street where the highest price ever paid is £166,500. The vendor wanted £175,000. They turned down £166,000 so I have gone for £169,950 and got it accepted. The house is absolutely fab, ticks all the boxes I want from a house and has been completely refurbed. Now this may sound daft,…

Can I buy a house in trust for my kids?
I would like to buy a house for my kids...they are 1 and 3! I think it will be a better way to save for their future than regular savings accounts. Can I buy a property on their behalf and hence avoid capital gains tax if I sell before they are 18??

More than fed up with Estate Agent
We have been with the same estate agent since last May trying to sell our house. The house was originally put on the market at £195,000 and the estate agent quoted us a fee of £3,800 + VAT. We accepted this being very naive and trusting as we wanted that kind of money for our house. Eventually at the end of November we…

I'm sure all buyers are as nervous as I feel, but I feel stupid because we only got our offer accepted on Friday - long way to go yet. I have today had quotes off solicitors who were recommended for conveyancing but was just wonering if there is anything that I should particularly look out for? Or are they all very…

Newbie
I am unsure if this is the right place to post this question however if any one saw the Panorama programme on Sunday 5th March it is about that practice. Essentially Health Authorities ask people if they own their own house when they admit them to hospital. If the answer is yes then their long term medical care is in…
