Solar warranties
My installer's website has disappeared. Perhaps that firm is a casualty of downward expectations for the domestic solar business. This places a question mark over the guarantees and future servicing of expectations. I wonder whether there is much value in manufacturers' warranties where the installer has gone out of…

VAT Consulation
HMRC has launched a consulation (11 December) with a view to increasing VAT from 5 to 20% on energy saving products (including solar panels, smart heating controls). Labour will also be at 20% unless the cost of labour is significantly less than the cost of the products. It would seem that a European Court of Justice…

Beekeeping
Some questions for the beekeepers here. I am going to start beekeeping and have decided that my first hive will be a top bar hive. Easier to build yourself and allegedly better for healthier bees. I will be doing a course this February through to April. The course will be based on the national hive system, and I will have…

Battery Storage System for Solar/E7
I have solar with enphase microinverters, therefore I have no main inverter. Most products seem to be geared around the more efficient route of storing DC, but I obviously can't do that. So is there any AC storage systems that can take into account energy export and store that energy into a battery system? Similarly…

Bio-degradable or next-best Eco bin liners?
I have this bin: http://www.addis.co.uk/waste-managem...n.html?pid=162 And I normally use the Lidl slightly transparent/white bin liners as a perfect fit but I'm conscious that Lidl is pretty weak at recyclable packaging and products etc. I've seen bin liners made from recycled plastic which is nice, and I'll take that,…

Pico hydro generation - 50W worth it?
I was looking at a product called a Power Spout that generates hydro electricity on a small scale. I put in some figures into their calculator and the lowest it would come out with was 50w generation. This would equate to 1.2kw per day, 36.5kw per month and 438kw per annum. The cost of the grid enabled power spout is £1400…
