How do I challenge this energy bill?
I bought a property last month and took a meter reading on the completion day. The previous owner was with First Utility for gas & electricity. I had already arranged to switch to Npower, and gave Npower plenty of notice of that. I duly rang Npower to give them the opening meter readings and they told me that the way it…

Does my gas usage seem high?
Just trying to do some gas & electricity comparisons and noticed that my current annual usage for gas seems very high. Latest statement shows annual usage as 22992.30 kWh. Solarplicity not responding to communications - and they owe me money!
So - when I joined solarplicity they installed a new smart meter. Unfortunately, they didn't update their systems by removing the old one and have been accruing bills on two meters (despite me contacting them about it). Roll forward to November 8th and I have left Solarplicity (for poor service, communication and hiking up…

British Gas Smart Meter problems
Had (Gas and Electric) Smart Meters fitted by BG approx 4 years, no problems at all, until early last week when the external gas meter stopped transmitting to the in home display unit. Spoke to the smart meter team, who confirmed that it was still transmitting meter readings so they booked an engineer visit to sort the…

People's Energy Price Increase
Inevitable I know, but still frustrating when you move to the cheapest provider then they announce a price-rise some weeks later :(

Cowboy Plumber
I write this with great embarrassment... here goes... My boiler in my rented accommodation packed up on a Saturday, and after I felt fobbed off by the "emergency" repairs number from the agent, told me they would come Monday. I decided to get an emergency plumber and hope to recoup the costs (mistake one I know, I know). I…

Avro conditions
Unhappy with Avro's quote. The whole point of having a fixed tariff is to pay the same amount every month. My income is the same every month, but they insist that I would have to pay a (higher) winter rate and a (lower) summer rate, depending on the months of the year. So, despite their being 'the Cheapest@, they are not…

Carbon Footprint Saver
Hi all I've just had a cold caller at the door from a company called Carbon Footprint Saver Ltd . It had all the classic hallmarks of a scam, but I thought I'd just check if anyone here has had any dealings with them. He started off by saying that the local council sent him, then when challenged the story changed to the…

Broken meter - no ones wants to fix?!
Hi all, Avid reader but first-time poster, just after any advice as i am going round in circles. I purchased my house approx. 2 and 1/2 years ago, signed up with my provider and gave readings. 6 months later i gave the electric reading and i was advised on the online portal it was too low, someone called and said they…

Neighbour wants to tap into our domestic water supply
Hi - just wanted to get thoughts/shared experiences. We live close to some canal moorings and have been approached by a couple of boat owners who are wanting to create a metered water supply to their land adjacent to the canal. The water board have quoted them in excess of 15k to do it officially from the road connection.…

Faulty boiler when moved in, high gas bill ,who to pay
Hi, So I have just moved in to a new property last Thur 10/1 , on the same day the agent told me the boiler is faulty , the hearing is on all the time while there is no hot water at all. Economy Energy Refund Still Owed
Hello all, I was an economy energy customer for just less than a year and have a credit balance of just over £700. I have been owed this since November 2018, and have been calling and calling and when I do get through they tell me to wait for it to appear in my account...which I’m guessing will never happen. It was only…

Prepayment meter
I inherited pre-payment meters when I moved into my new house last year. I changed supply to my old energy company Npower as I thought my history with them might help me get the meters changed to credit meters. I have now had 7 appointments since January 2018 for Npower to come and change my electric meter (gas meter was…

Reactive insurance solutions no engineer visit radiator issue
Howdy ! After experiencing a couple of costly boiler repairs , I eventually found a company that would service my central heating system for a monthly premium. This company is called reactive . I found them through Giles heating who fixed the boiler . Fair enough . The policy started on 29th June 2018 , £ 17.56 pm I nearly…

Octopus
I've just started a switch from the shambles that is British Gas to Octopus, as the reviews I've read are very good. However, they've just informed me that as well as starting my direct debit (£117) on 15th February, they'll also take another £117 on 1st Feb, so I've got a "little bit of credit". I'm on a state pension…

Am I Able To Claim Compensation (Sewage Leak)
This might be a long post so scroll down if you want the abridged version. Before Christmas (around the 16th), I started to notice a sewage-like smell in the basement floor of my house (I rent, by the way). I gave it a couple of days, and when the smell persisted I contacted my landlord and put in a maintenance request.…
