Do not switch to energy suppliers without verifying emergency repairs policy
I request everyone to think twice before joining any new gas supplier. The billing issues are nothing in comparison to facing emergency situation due to gas leak. I am sharing my experience as a customer with one of the small energy supplier. I had a gas leak in the meter and national grid was informed to look into this. The…

Economy Energy
I took my gas and electric from Economy Energy on a fixed rate between August 2017 until August 2018. I then changed to Utility Point. Upon leaving Economy Energy my account was in credit £83.50. I was expecting them to refund the money but it did not happen. On October 3rd I rang them and they agreed that the account was…

All electric house - not sure if spending too much?
Hi I have recently moved into my first house and am pretty clueless about these sorts of things...so would really appreciate some advice! House info: London, 1986 build mid terrace, 2 bedrooms over three floors, 2 people living here, all electric, storage heaters in all rooms except living room. Hot water tank is on a…

30 percent electric increase
I live on a mobile home park in Cheshire and the site owner sent a very short letter to all on site saying that the electric bill was going up from 14.994p to a whopping 19.68p per unit. This means my bill was £11 more expensive. This seems an awfully large increase. As regards to Mobile homes act the site owner must…

Charges 9 months after switch
I switched from Flow energy to Tonik Feb 2018. Flow contacted me in November to say I owed them money. Is this fair for them to take so long to come up with final figures? I would have thought that everything would be resolved and the account settled during the switching process.

Exit fee cut-off date
I'm about to leave Zog for my gas after several years with them (my fixed deal is ending on 5th Feb). All the wording on their paperwork indicates I will be liable for the £30 early exit fee for my Mercury 24 tariff if I leave before the exit date. I'm sure it used to be that if you were within so many days of the end of…

Cheap Energy Club: Lumo NOT for tenants
I'm trying to switch from Together (as a former OneSelect customer - note, can't find that tariff listed here), the best deal for me was Lumo. I read the tariff details, then decided to go ahead. That sent me over to Money Supermarket, where I dutifully completed the application process - only to be told after submitting…

Variable direct debits (for fixes) - is this the future?
Looks like some companies are charging higher direct debits over winter; is this common practise now? I guess if utilities have to pre-buy power it eases their cash-flow. Does this mean the best tariffs in the future will be pay-12-months-up-front? eg like land-line rental.

Supplier taking payment without taking over supply
In October I attempted to move from Economy Energy to Outfox the Market which at the time was the best value supplier suggested by MSE. I have noticed that for the last 3 months both Economy Energy and Outfox have been collecting DD payments. According to EE Outfox never took over my supply. Outfox seem to be a very…

Switching when usage patterns have changed dramatically
I'm quite used to switching energy providers at the end of each deal - using the different utility comparison websites. However this year our energy usage has changed dramatically in the last few months, because we bought an electric car in October. Based on my calculations, I think we will use an extra 1285 KWh of…

Smart Meters - not now
I was considering requesting a Smart Meter - but have decided against it - after watching this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G32NYQpvy8Q I was not aware that there would be different(increased) rates for peak times of day etc..... Safety concerns, hacking concerns, privacy issues, increased costs, data…

Worryingly high electricity bill
Hi all, I moved into a one-bedroom flat (electric only, no gas) with my partner on 21/12/18. An electricity bill dated 07/12 - 28/12 arrived for £48 which I passed to the letting agent. Got a revised bill from SSE for £37.35 (Standard tariff. No storage heaters, not economy 7 tariff) for 21/12 - 28/12 - 191kWh used. We…

Switching to "Utility Point" double payment first month
In the process of switching to this company through the MSE cheap energy club, they have set up a direct debit which is considerably higher than what I am paying now. After calling them they advise me it is a double payment for the first month then drops back afterwards to normal. This was not mentioned on the energy club…

Smart Meter (Gas) billing
After my previous post about my BG supplied Gas smart meter not sending info to the In Home Display, and another phone call to BG, it transpires that the battery in the external gas meter has dies, as it has not sent them any readings since early Jan. A quick check of the meter, indeed confirms that the LCD display is…

Electric Heating!
Hi I'm trying to find out more about smart electric heating systems. I have a two bedroom flat which I own and there are two of us living in the property. There is no gas supply to the property so the heating system is electric and currently using older version of altantic convector heaters. My electric comes to a whopping…

Outfox the Market incompetently or fraudulently continuing to take D/D payments
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone else has been having Outfox the Market continuing to take direct debits payments after they've changed to another supplier? After the announced price increases (not the varied winter payments which I can understand) last year I switched to another supplier as I'm fairly sure OtM are having…
