British Gas discriminating against me because of previous owner
Hi I have recently bought a new house, which has prepayment meters and British Gas as the supplier. The previous owner had money problems and left a debt on the meters, which was wiped off by BG. I wanted to get a better rate by paying by direct debit, so I asked BG for credit meters but failed the credit check. They said…

Saved £15pm on Gas and Lecky
I saw Avro Energy on Cheap Energy Club listed as the best quote for switching our utility provider, saving us £13 per month. So I contacted them and started the switching process. Five days into our cooling off period our old provider Scottish Power's retention department rang and offered us an even better deal - £15 off…

So much hassle trying to switch our gas & electricity providers
I was watching the Martin Lewis money show on TV the other month and it mentioned on there about how easy it was to switch your gas and electricity provider, but it seems anything but for us. We were with British Gas and our monthly bills were very much on the high side compared to others we know so we decided to switch to…

Mix & Match Dimplex Heaters
Hi, Apologies for yet another twist on the storage heater replacement question. I've read through many previous posts in the forum on this and hopefully I'm not repeating too much. I have a (probably bog-standard) 90s build 2 bedroom flat, which is kitted out with Dimplex headers, a 2.4KW storage heater with booster in the…

British Gas - Warm Home Discount
Hi, last year I received my Warm Home Discount [British Gas] mid December. It's now March and I still haven't received it. I checked and I definitely applied again [in June 2015] and was approved. My circumstances haven't changed. Are other people experiencing delays? Cheers.

Getting tired of wrong information from MSE
The last few MSE emails have included quotes like 'if you are on the standard energy tariff you are definitely paying too much'. This is followed by a plug for the profitable to MSE, Cheap Energy Club. If I use the Cheap Energy Club I'm significantly worse off compared to the Ebico STANDARD tariff that I'm on. I've…

First utility switching
Hi All I have been a first utility gas and electric customer for a good few years now and each time I have gone from one fixed rate to another and most times switching to a cheaper deal long before the current deal runs out. I tried to do the same again last month and was told they would have to charge me the early exit…

Switchover Fiasco - Help!!
Hi I recently switched from Scottish Power to Sainsbury's Energy. Sainsbury's Energy have submitted an incorrect final meter reading to Scottish Power (though we submitted it to them correctly), and as a consequence SP attempted to remove £8,910 from our bank account on Saturday. As it was scheduled to come out on Monday,…

Switching energy - but about to move house
Hi, My year-long fixed Sainsbury gas & electricity tariff expired a few days ago, putting me on to the Standard Tariff. The problem is that I am about to move house in a month's time, so I am unsure how the switching process works: if I come on to a new fixed deal, can I switch it to the new property? I was told this takes…

How accurate are our energy bills?
Who is responsible for checking that our energy bills are accurate? When the energy supply industry was privatised many decades ago the idea was that a large number of suppliers would buy gas and electricity from a few main tranporters, then sell these products on to the general public. This is a bit like a shop keeper who…

First Utility set payments too low
Hi Just tried to switch from first utility, and been told we can't because we owe them £566! We pay by fixed monthly direct debit and I give a reading every month when requested, so how can we owe them so much money. I've actually checked back through the bills and can see last September they lowered our payment from £109…

British Gas - Switch price not so cheap?
On the advice of MSE, and to save money, I recently switched from Sainsbury's duel fuel tariff (£114 p/m) to British GAS duel fuel tariff (supposedly £99 p/m). I now find that although the switch has yet to be completed my "new supplier" is going to charge me £112 p/m ? - where's the savings in that??? Smicky55

N-power and Prepayment Meters
Hi. Looking for some advice. We got into some trouble with our energy bills after I lost my job last year. They installed prepayment meters in October and told me that the debt would come off of them. I got a bill last week for Electricity, so I phoned and queried it. The next day I got a letter saying that the debt had…
