Scottish Power bumped me onto higher tariff. Sneaky!
I was shocked to find despite being away from home most of the winter I came back to higher than expected bill. Upon further inspection I discovered that due to a DD being unpaid last year they didn't just retry the DD or ask for alternative. No, they just cancel your DD and bung you back on their Standard Tariff which I…

Are there any genuine fixed rates for gas?
My flatmate and I recently had a huge gas bill for over £800 debt. This is after we had arranged a fixed monthly rate and asking repeatedly if that is correct and that there'd be no debt accrued as we're well aware that our flat isn't economical to heat. I hate pre-payment metres and would prefer to know for sure what my…

We want to put her on a bill for both instead paid monthly via DD but I do not understand how to find the best deal. She is currently with Eon on the AgeUK tariff. Any help with the best supplier to go to would be fab :) TIA

First electricity bill - advice wanted
I moved out of my parents place at the end of last month, contacted the electricity on the 25th and gave them the meter readings for when I moved in and that day. Received the monthly bill today - £75. I don't really know what to expect, but this seem high. I half expected it to be high though since the flat has no gas, so…

So what actually changes when you change energy supplier?
I received my npower bill today and it got me thinking about shopping around for a new deal. It started me wondering about what *actually* happens when you change supplier? Take switching broadband for example. You sign up for a new supplier, and there is a brief downtime while an openreach bod physically cables you up to…

EDF Energy Overcharging!!!!!
Looking for a bit of advice if anyone can help.... I moved both by gas and electric supply to EDF Energy last October. I have prepayment meters in my house and was advised by EDF to top each meter up three times by £1 a day to allow their settings to download. I did all this in October and carried on as normal. I then…

Gas on Estate But Not In Property.
My sister has decided to move from Economy 7 heating to gas central heating. The gas board came today to fit a meter but said they couldn't because there was no evidence of gas at property. She lives on a private estate, where gas is used by many owners, although her property has never had any gas, there is a pipe in her…

Provider is back dating utility bills
I have just received a bill from my dual fuel provider that goes back to April 2011. I pay always paid by direct debt each month but they issue bills and then in next bill previous bill is cancelled and payments made credited to new bill that covers a longer time. I have gone from in credit on my account to in debt. Does…

Energy/House Grants/Subsidy...
Hey all, First-time poster, long-time reader...we've moved in to our first home as a young family (well, we've got a three-year-old daughter...!!) and having done the initial painting/decorating and minor bits to make it our own, are looking at the next, slightly more practical steps. Having had the token free visit from…

Switching gas supplier for winter & summer
Theoretically, would it not be cheaper for most people with gas central heating to switch to a low-user tariff in the summer, and then switch back to a medium/high-user tariff in the winter? For example, Ebico is easily the cheapest for me overall but there are other tariffs that are cheaper if I just consider the winter…

Student ex-housemates delaying paying bills. Will this affect me?
Hi, after living with friends in a student house at university, we have unpaid utility bills. They were due to be paid over 6 months ago. All our names are on the bills, but we sent our share of the money to our housemate the 'account holder' so he could pay it to the utility company. He still hasn't paid the bill as he…

monthly direct debits ( ...again and again...)
I entered my meter readings online with Scot Power today, and was immediately informed that I was in debit to the massive tune of £33 and they'd be increasing my monthly D/d from £50 to £57 Isn't the point of monthly D/D to smooth out these variations over the seasons? And surely the £33 amount will be covered by the much…

Scottish Power: what is going on?
So, I helped my mum to switch over to Scottish Power (from Eon and British Gas). All seemed to go smoothly, with the progress page pretty helpful in keeping us up to date with the current state of affairs. Then switchover occurred, and things started going weird. First of all, the Direct Debit, already set at a high level…
