Scottish Power bumped me onto higher tariff. Sneaky!
I was shocked to find despite being away from home most of the winter I came back to higher than expected bill.
Upon further inspection I discovered that due to a DD being unpaid last year they didn't just retry the DD or ask for alternative.
No, they just cancel your DD and bung you back on their Standard Tariff which I believe are usually the highest.
I don't recall getting any letter or email about this. But they said it was the terms of the tariff I was on , so there basically.
It seems a bit sneaky to get people in and then use any excuse they can find (Ive read this happening to others who didnt get an email from them) to squeeze more money out of you.
As usual these days, its profits first and to hell with customer service.
Anyway, their antics have got my back up and so I will be looking to change supplier.
Any tips/thoughts welcomed.

If the terms of your deal mean you agreed to pay by DD and you don't, you are effectively in breach of the agreement.
Most suppliers would act similarly, so best of luck in your seach.0 -

Are you in debt with them because of the failed direct debit or has that been recovered since they changed your tariff?
If you are in debt it may be difficult to switch supplier. However, if you're not, you should be able to switch quite easily. The standard tariff is more expensive but it is a rolling 30 day contract (normally) so you wont be tied in.
Just go on uswitch or a similar website and find the best tariff for your household.
