Gas meter reset to zero?

Hi all,

I have a strange problem with my gas meter and wanted to check ifanyone else has had the same problem. I have just sold a flat and wanted tosubmit final meter readings. As the flat was vacant for 18 months the previousbills have all been estimated. I noticed that my final reading is verydifferent from the estimated readings. On investigating previous statements Inoticed that the gas meter reading was reset to zero, even though the meter hasnever been changed (summary figures below). I now have the problem that I willget a massive gas bill if I submit my 'real' readings as they are much higherthan the estimated readings from EON. A meter reader is due to visit theproperty soon but obviously will only confirm my readings. Has anyone had thisproblem in the past? I wanted to check before trying to discuss the issue withEON customer service. My initial call today had them flumoxed...

As my current reading is now 7261 you can imagine I am a little worriedabout the bill! I have actually used 35 units but they will think I have used 7000.Could it be that they planned to change the meter but never did? Or is it avirtual change?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

Cheers, Adam

You seem to have readings for 3 different gas meters.
    I don't know why.

I suggest you contact your supplier, as otherwise we'd just be guessing

That's the confusing part; I only have 1 meter and it has never been changed so I don't know why I have 3 different meters listed.

That's for the supplier to explain.

If they couldn't answer your query on your initial call, I suggest you raise a formal complaint in writing following their complaint procedure.

Also ask why they estimating your usage at some point in the future.

On the day you completed on the sale of your property, you should have called the supplier advising them of this and provided a meter reading for them to prepare a final bill for you.
Failure to have done this could result in you still paying for the consumption at the property.

To be clear, the meter readings above are for 2011, which is when the meter serial numbers mysteriously changed. The property has been vacant since then so I didn't notice until I called EON to advise them of the final meter readings. I live 500 miles away so can't check myself but I hope a visit from a meter reader will clear up the issue. Just wanted to check if anyone else had the same issue.

Highly unlikely a meter reader visit will sort anything out. If the serial he gives does not tally with the records they will probably default it to what they have on file as a reader error as "the computer cannot be wrong". You need to get a serial from the meter and raise a complaint.

The company might had found some fault with your meter and that's why would have replaced the old one. Nothing to worry about, visit your gas contractors today and get updates on the issue...

The meter has never been replaced... that's the issue. It seems like they have changed the serial number on their system (and reset the reading to zero) without changing the physical meter itself...

remove the serial numbers, as people with xoserve access can tell where you live
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    Hi Adam

From the info above, it certainly looks as though we're dealing with three different meters here.

As others have said, the best way to move this forward is to establish the serial number and reading of the meter actually at the property.

I do understand you're a long way from the property. However, is the meter reader visit you mention a special visit to check the meter details? If it is, this will confirm the meter serial number. If not, I'd suggest calling us and upgrading the visit to 'check meter details.'

Once we know the serial number of the meter on site, we can move to the next stage and make sure we're billing the correct meter.

Hope this helps Adam. Give me a shout if I can help further as happy to do so.
