Scottish/British Gas - Do they know what they're doing?
I got my first bill for my new flat about the middle of November. So far Scottish Gas had been fairly good compared to Scottish Power but the first bill has brought some problems. It's a £128, I didn't really have a problem with it as it sounds about right but I checked the meter readings and they were completely wrong.…

No gas bill for a year!!!!!!
We're a duel fuel customer for Eon and recently recieved a bill for 1 years worth of gas. Yes, we should have chased them up over it, however as we were recieving regular bills from Eon the gas slipped below the radar!! Meter reading appear correct, so we now have a £450 bill for Christmas...... Our concern is due to the…

Central Heaint Manual Needed
not sure if this is in the correct forum or not. My friend has just moved into a new flat and there is no instruction manual for the central heating system. The control panel on the wall shows it as being a British Gas system but no model number of anything. There were no instructions left behind either. Anyone know…

British Gas Electricity token problem
Hi I've just been to buy tokens for my electricity meter, but the machine at the shop couldn't read my card. I rang BG (45min call!), to be told that they are stopping tokens. Have arranged to have my meter changed (bill paying one), they can't come until next Sat and am panicking as don't know if I'll be able to use my…

economy 7
I only use my economy 7 for my washing machine and dishwasher but worry about fire or flood overnight. I am with Eon. Can I change my metering to remove economy 7 and pay one rate for night and day?

Is there something wrong with my electricity meter?
I just got an electricity bill from EON today for £290. This is for 17 weeks, and so works out at over £70 a month. According to my meter i am using 18units a day, however, i can't see how this can be true. I live in a 1 bed new flat, on my own. I have no dishwasher, washing machine, or kettle, and dont use heating... The…

Please, where is that post....
I don't mean the one about the large house in Scotland, I mean the thread that was going quite a while ago. I just can't remember what the general consensus was about whether it was cheaper to leave heating on all the time or just give it a couple of bursts per day. Sorry to duplicate, but would like to find out about this…

Temperature setting for gas central heating
What temperature do you set your thermostat at in winter? I tried mine on several settings and found that 16 degrees was too cold, 20 was too hot and 18 was just right. (Sounds as if Goldilocks has been in my house!) On the really cold days I start it at 20 degrees then reduce it to 18. Is this an average setting?

Calorific value - how much does it vary?
What is the range of value for the gas conversion factor? 11 and 31 are widely cited but currently my imperial factor is 32 (31.9). How much does it vary barometer to barometer and latitude to latitude and season to season? (Or should that be shoal to shoal and field to field?)

N Power Estimated Elect Bills.
We have, for a long time paid our electricity bill on an estimated basis. I seemed to remember reading somewhere that you should whenever possible give the meter reading as this is a potential for saving money. Unfortunatley it worked the other way and the monthly bill increased by £13. Also on the bill when they do the…

Soutern Electric Boiler cover, is this subject to failed appointments compensation?
I started boiler cover with Southern Electric about 10 weeks ago. They were very efficent and send an engineer around very quickly to do its first service to confirm they could take on the boiler. When the engineer arrived he did some tests and said there was a fault on the boiler and it would be £600 to repair. I…

Power companies - transfer permission?
Hi just had a cold call from British Gas from some 'far away' call centre - he informed me that because I had been a previous customer I was now entitled to discounts for this and that if I had my account transfered back to them. Normally I would just say I'm not interested but for once I let him do his spiel and at the…

Scottish Power - revision to direct debit
Under what circumstances do they have an over-riding power to increase direct debits? I submitted my meter reading on Wednesday 10th. The charges, less my current dd's left an outstanding balance of £33.09. This was paid on the same day by bank card. I've now had an email to say they want to increase by 52.6%. I've replied…

EON Door to door salesman - help I've messed up
Hi guys, Had my first ever door to door gas/electricity salesman visit tonight. Seemed harmless enough, it's freezing outside so I let him tell me why I should change. He asked me for my signature to "confirm that I've spoken to you". Asked him at the start "so I'm not signing up for anything, I'm just going to get sent…

Keeping your Neighbours Warm!
Thought I would share this interesting story with you all. My daughter moved into her first rented flat a few months ago and took the reading from her electricity meter, after gaining access to the communal cupboard by the concierge. She has no gas within the property. She has been paying the landlord monthly and it has…
