I don't mean the one about the large house in Scotland, I mean the thread that was going quite a while ago.

I just can't remember what the general consensus was about whether it was cheaper to leave heating on all the time or just give it a couple of bursts per day.

Sorry to duplicate, but would like to find out about this as I have been so cold lately, but daren't put the heating on all the time due the cost of the gas.

Thanks (if Cardew is around I am sure he will know)

    Melbury,
There must be a hundred threads on this subject. Was this the one?

Timed is cheaper than 24/7 - no question. How much cheaper depends on a whole load of factors!

    Thanks Cardew,

Have just read through that entire thread and sadly have to face the fact that it would undoubtedly be far more expensive to run the heating all of the time, so will just stick to the couple of hours in the morning and five hours in the evening. It was a lovely thought though - a warm house all day and night!

Hopefully the price of gas will collapse very soon and we won't have to be so concerned about this topic.

i also tried this over a 2 week period. it was a lot more expensive in my case.

i now have the heating on for 2 hrs in the morn and 5 hrs in the evening.

i used twice as many units of gas, my boiler is 19 years old and unefficient now though - getting it changed after xmas.
