How to find cheapest supplier when moving house?
We have our house up for sale and when we move I want to negotiate all the best deals for gas, elec, insurance etc. How can you find out which gas/electric company will be the cheapest when you are going to a different house and therefore have no idea what your consumption will be there? Do you look at price per unit?

Scottish Power-End of Capped Rate? Watch Out For This
Today I had a letter acknowledging my acceptance of the new capped rate till 08 (version K) My old rate ended 31st March just gone. Reading things thoroughly like I always try to do, I noticed that it said the new rate increase will be taken into account on my anniversary statement. (Or words to that affect.) Now my…

How often to submit meter readings (Scottish Power Online)
I'm a Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 2 customer, and was wondering how often you're supposed to submit your readings online? Do you get reminders when they want you to do it? Are there any advantages in doing it more often (i.e. weekly, monthly...)? Thanks in advance for any replies :)

The Issue of Bill Being Overcharged and Undercharged
Guys, I seem to now understand that the utility companies overcharge us in the winter and then undercharge us in the summer (or something like that) and then this gets "fixed" and they do an annual meter reading. To avoid this, can we give me the meter reading each month? I.e. we go to the meter, jot down the meter number…

Utility Charging
Hello, I love this site and would be grateful for any advice/expertise in the outlined below. We are being pursued by a utility company for charges they claim we owe them for utility usage. 627 kWh per day gas consumption!
My mum has shown me her gas bill for 29th January to 31st March 2007 - it is £1630.82 for 61 days (38246 kWh @ 4.061p per kWh with Scottish Power). Does anyone have any thoughts on why this should be so high? She has an aga which runs on gas, and 4 out of the 13 radiators in the house are on from 4.30pm to 10.30pm each…

Powergen Eon - weird and high 1/4ly bill
Got my electricity bill today. My usage doesn't vary much by month, but the meter only gets read around once a year (when will they learn that most people are out 8am-6pm!), when there's around 20% more or less difference to the estimate. Today I got a 1/4ly bill for over £500 ! They claim to have read my meter, which they…

Why is my gas bill always so high??
I have an old gas boiler which is installed behind the fire in the lounge. We only use gas for the central heating and heating our water. This said, our gas bill is always WAY higher than our electric bill. We use electric for all other things, including cooking. I was wondering if I should have the boiler on a different…
