Is there anyway that I can get a good deal without already having a supplier of gas or electricity? Keep reading how much I can get from switching, but not from starting!
I live with parents at the moment but I am moving to a new house with my new wife in June and we are keen to get the best tariff possible and as much saving (like everyone else!) Any ideas? Quidco? It's a three bedroom mid-terrace, postcode RG184BA.
Confused!

You will have an existing supplier when you move in. It is important you register with them and give them meter readings the day you move as even if you are switching as until everything has gone through you we be billed by the existing company.
Most switching sites have a box where you can choose 'I don't know my consumption'. They will then ask you a few questions and can give you a rough idea of who will be cheapest based on estimated usage.
Don't forget to look for hidden advantages and pitfalls which aren't reflected in the ranking on the comparison sites, such as Nectar/Tesco/Argos points from some companies or appaling customer service from others (not mentioning names of course... *cough* the utility company most featured on watchdog *cough*)0 -
I know that the house is currently supplied by EDF energy for both gas and electricity. But, as I have never had an account with them, can I not get any discounts/cashbacks? I will phone them when I move in with meter readings though. So, do I just have to go with EDF or can I still benefit fropm 'switching?'0

you can still benefit from switching, but you need to register with EDF when you move in. It will take 4-8 weeks for your new supplier to take over. You won't get any cashback registering with EDF as they already supply, but you may get cashback moving to a new company.0
