Plans for bailiffs to be self-regulated but Martin Lewis warns compulsory regulation is needed
Plans for bailiffs in England and Wales to be self-regulated have been put forward by the Centre for Social Justice in a bid to better protect people in debt. But Martin Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, warns that the industry-funded body doesn't go far enough, saying that every bailiff firm needs to be "tightly…

Consolidating...Is this a stupid idea???
So I just back at work after maternity leave (have posted before!!) I have realised we have a considerable amount of equity in the house which we were hoping to release with a view to renovating our very old farm house (rewire/new roof etc!). It needs done and interest rates are low atm. Anyway given current building…

What Small DFW Things Will You Do This Week 26/07/21?
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym. But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when…

Quick Question - Getting company to accept a DMP proposal for longer than three months
Hi folks, Quick question. I used a CAB template letter to contact the companies to offer a DMP programme that I manage myself. (I would rather do it myself than have another company like StepChange do it) On of the companies were only willing to stop interest/accept reduced payment for a three month period. I sent them my…

Unknown CCJ
SOMEONE PLEAAASSSEEE HELP ME! In 2007 I bought a house in Manchester with my ex, soon after the “credit crunch” hit and we literally lost half the value of the house. In 2011 we separated and I moved back to London (I have not been to the house since!). We couldn’t sell the house because of the massive negative equity, it…

Is there a process people must take to recover debts?
Evening all. But of a strange one - came home yesterday to a letter from a debt collection agency saying I owe an amount to a company I haven't used since 2019. We used the company for 5 years and all payments were via direct debit. We did cancel the direct debit but not until 2 full months after the company stopped taking…

Below £1000 pcm outgoings challenge
By my calculations this is around 24 months off. My committed outgoings or bills are currently £1301 a month, I have a loan to clear which is £263 per month and another commitment which is £36 a month, both will be gone in 2 years, I'll need to then cancel something or find something to take it below £1000, despite…
