Council tax arrears
Hi really not sure if this is right page but seems ok. In November bailiffs came to my home and took control of goods and took them away on that same day for unpaid council tax. I have since made an arrangement plan with them through a debt charity which I have kept to for the last three months. My question is what happens…

Not sure where to turn...
Hi all, So I am 25, my husband is 28 and we have two children, live in a privately rented house and the only asset we could say we have is a car that is on HP, my father in law is the guarantor for this, the payments go from his account and so we pay the monthly amount into his account to cover payments. Apart from that we…

Budget recommendations
I have submitted an online budget to StepChange and it was all fairly easy.I'm a little confused about how much we should budget though. We do need to cut our outgoings so I inputted what I had put on my SOA. Stepchange suggested amounts for various areas e.g. smoking, mobiles and groceries as the amount I put in was to…

Car finance question
I have a car on finance and I am not 100% clear on the name of the product. I bought the car for 15k and the way this loan works with Barclays Partner Finance is that they work out the interest there and then plus any costs and slap that on top and then divide the total by the number of months and then I pay that. So there…

Monday 22nd February - what small DFW things will you be doing today?
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym. But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when…

Very simply, my son took out a Vodaphone contract in 2012. Shortly afterwards he went with a friend to the Vodaphone shop and transferred the account to her.…

I had a sofa on credit back in 2007, I split with my wife in 2008 and in 2012 I learnt that the sofa had not been paid for by my wife and that the credit company had got a solicitor to obtain a CCJ against me and also a…

Staying debt free advice...
Hi, Just after a bit of advice. We budget monthly and everything always starts well at the start of the month, but usually half-way through it goes a bit pete tong. I think it's because we probably overspend (i.e. if you worked it out on XX per month = XX weekly) in the first half, so have to always pull the purse strings…

Do F&F's mess up credit records again?
We are about to go self-managed after being on a DMP for 12 years with SC. This is to make it easier to do CCA requests followed by F&Fs to those that are left. My DH's only concern is that if we do F&Fs will these show on our credit reports again as having been settled, since all bar one of our defaults have disappeared?

Debt problems
I posted this elsewhere on this site and was advised to also post it here. First of all, sorry if I have picked the wrong section to post this in. The monthly cost of my debt is so high that in a good month I have very little money left and in a bad month I struggle to pay my bills. I own three properties, conservatively…

Selling up to pay off debts?
Hi, I'm new on here so please bear with me. We finally got on the housing ladder 2.5 years ago after years of renting. We borrowed 20k from a very wealthy friend and pay him £100 a month to cover any interest he would have got and will eventually have to pay back 20k. We then got a mortgage and owe 180k on that. We bought…

Overdrafts as Longterm borrowing
Just a topic for discussion. When did people (banks, the world in general) start thinking of using overdrafts as a form of long term borrowing. It does seem the case that people have "max out" overdrafts, and essentially treat them as another form of long term (very expensive) credit. When I was young, I seem to remember…

Advice on high debt costs.
The monthly cost of my debt is so high that in a good month I have very little money left and in a bad month I struggle to pay my bills. I own three properties, conservatively valued at £350k which return me about £2k a month. My mortgages on them add up to about £180k and cost me about £1k a month. I also own a business…
