Statute Barred Scotland
I know it's 5 years up here but is it from the date of default or the date payment was last made? I have a debt that I last paid in jul 2010 but this did not default until june 2011. Is it statute barred now or does it become statute barred in 5 months? I know it won't drop off the credit file until 6 years from default.

Employer overpayments
Hi, My wife has recently discovered that her employer (a school, so by extension our local council) has made 3 months worth of overpayments totalling around £1500 after tax. When my wife went from full time to part time with maternity inbetween, the bursar did not contact the council to advise of the reduced hours. My wife…

DMP/token payments
Hi I've done the debt remedy on step change and they suggest a DMP. But I did it based on what I'm hoping my income will be in March when my ex has to start paying child support. Should I do the token payment thing until I've got the child support money coming through? He stopped paying a couple of months ago and it's…

Debt collectors call for someone else
Good evening all. I have a slightly different question on calls from debt collection agents. I've no problem debt myself (all payments always on time). However, I do get calls from various debt collectors, always asking for one of two people (same surname); I've never heard of them outside of these calls and as far as I am…

DCA reporting to Credit Reference Agency
Hello everyone, apologies if this has already been answered but as of yet I am unable to find the answer I seek. When a debt collection agency "buys" a debt, what are the guidelines regarding the reporting of the account to the CRA's ? Is there an obligation for them to notify the CRA's that they have bought the debt or…

The dmp is for a number of years ( about another 7/8? I'll check later). Last year was the worst year I've ever had( mum dying / me in hospital twice with…

I currently bank with NatWest and I have an overdraft of £500 which I'm in every month without fail and I can't see a way out. I've looked at switching bank accounts and every bank says that the NatWest will be closed in the switching process and as a result the overdraft will need to be paid in full. Unfortunately I don't…

Thursday 21st January - What small DFW things will you do today?
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym. But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when…

Advice on Loan
Hi all, Took out a secured loan in 2006 with HFC Bank for 15 years £20.300 to clear all debts. I have just found out from paperwork that the Loan is now with Moorgate loan servicing for and on behalf of Sancopia Portfolios. Just wondering why HFC Bank would pass this loan on to another company as all the payments are up to…

Keep shares or sell them to pay off credit card
So I have about £6k (7.25k) limit of CCard debt at 18% now, didn't quite get round to paying it off in time for the 0%. My credit (I think due to this) is not good enough to get another 0% card. Now, I have $16k (usd is intended) in shares. They're doing well, and I'm confident they'll keep going up, (they have been for…

anyone trying to clear more than £30k debt
hello all just started my dairy on trying to clear my £43k of cc debt - anyone else with a similar large amount to tackle as it does feel a bit overwhelming. Payday Loan Minor Victory
Just a quick one, I have been writing to my payday loan lenders recently asking for refunds etc for unfair affordability checks etc. Just had an email back from 'MR Lender'. They have disputed all of the claims made by me but have agreed to write off the balance of £260 as a full and final settlement! I'm happy with that!…

CCJ and credit report
Hi I'm new to the site and I'm after some advise. Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place. I really want to get a mortgage in the next few years but I've recently had a CCJ added to my credit file. This was from a debt which had defaulted in 2008. They sent a few letters to my Dads address but I never received…
