My start to getting out of debt
Ok, here goes. Thanks to reading purpleprincess' diary I have decided to list my own finances down and see what you think about how I'm doing and if I'm doing anything wrong. I'll do both my finances and joint finances with my husband so you can tell me if there is any better way of doing things. Ok, I'll start with the…

I think this changes things
I have just taken on an additional bit of musician work, as a resident so it's secure. It will give me an extra £600 a month so that is £800 per month (I took off £20 for the extra travel) So now I have a full £800 a month for the creditors. DO you think it is still worth going through the debtline thing or should I pretty…

Debt Dilemna
Hi, I am looking after my stepdads finances, he currently has an egg card with £2850 to pay, it has a 3500 limit. This is a result of consolidating all credit card bills onto a 0% card. He also has a loan from TSB that was for £8000 at 12.29%. (I have posted a letter to request cancellation of PPI today - hoping to receive…

What food have you thrown out this week?
There are threads on what you have / haven't spent. Threads on what you've bought, what menus you've planned. But I was always horrified at how much food I chucked out before I started budgeting - so come on folks - confession time! I'll start off with: 1 manky lemon 1 rotten chilli pepper - and that's it for the week! Am…

Influx Of Finance Adverts On TV
Is it me or are there even more ads on telly from debt management companies? I tend to have Sky Sports News on in the background all day and this week there seems to be a tonne more of these adverts. The thing is normally they are just consolidation loan ads but all these new ones are offering IVA's. C'mon Martin,…

Dilemma....
it's my birthday today, and I've very kindly been given £75 by my sister and mother in law. They almost always give me vouchers and I was looking forward to spending them, but once I pay this cheque into the bank it will pay a nice bit off my overdraft! I'm so intent on getting rid of it that I will be loath to spend it! So…

The fightback starts here (I hope!)
Hi guys, I'm currently stuck under a mountain of debt, and I'm looking for some opinions on it please...This is my first post so be gentle?! I'm in debt to the tune of a frankly terrifying £16,000 (3 x 0% CCs, 1 x low-interest loan, 1 x overdraft). It's been this way for about 2 years and I've been treading water (paying…

Can I transfer an overdraft into a "0% balance transfer" credit card?
Hi, I've just stumbled along this site whilst at work and I'm rather impressed, especially as I've just bought my first house.... Anyway, I bought my first house with a 100% mortgage and also borrowed more so that I could pay off my debts and have a clean slate. I am now left with a £1000 overdraft in a graduate account to…
