Dilemma....

it's my birthday today, and I've very kindly been given £75 by my sister and mother in law. They almost always give me vouchers and I was looking forward to spending them, but once I pay this cheque into the bank it will pay a nice bit off my overdraft! I'm so intent on getting rid of it that I will be loath to spend it!
So any suggestions?
I'll go with the majority vote.....

treat yourself to a homemade picnic and a walk in the countryside for free.
i know its easy for me to say that but your biggest present is the number of days sooner to being debt free.

what are you going to save for and treat yourself with when you are in the black?

I think someone knocking £75 off your overdraft sounds like a pretty good birthday present to me!

Happy birthday dear mintymoneysaver (that's a mouth full!)
    Happy birthday to you!

Difficult one. Is there a cd or something smallish you'd really like? Why not put most of it towards your debt but treat yourself to something you just wouldn't buy yourself at the moment.

Happy Birthday !! Put it towards the O/D as you'll be able to treat yourself lots when youre debt free and it'll make you feel better in the long run than an instant shopping fix!!

OOoh yeah, pay off the OD!!!

Brilliant idea ( unless you have anything costing you more interest)

That will make you debt free at least a week sooner, wont it?

Do your mil/sister know about your debts?
Whenever I am given money for birthdays or xmas then the person giving it would usually assume it is going to be spent on something for myselt, ie a present, not for it to go towards general living expenses/paying off the credit card things.
I know I would buy myself something, I wouldn't feel comfortable using it to pay the debt/grocery bill/overdraft.

Happy Birthday Minty. Mine tomorrow and I have the same dilemma ..... but I think you should pay it off your debt and owe yourself the present when you are debt free.

I am going to keep a note of what I 'owe' myself and when I owe no one else I will buy something I really really want ... and can afford.

The feeling of reducing that debt will feel so virtuous ... what better birthday present. If someone offerd to clear you debt for your birthday you'd feel fantastic! Well they are partially doing that so feel good about it. You don't have to tell them that is what you are doing. Just say that you have put the money by towards something bigger later on.

    Have a great day.

Also that 75 pounds will be worth a lot more to you as you will pay less interest

Your doing well so far so keep up the good work

    All the best

Just want to say you are doing fantastically well with your debt repayments! It looks like you will be debt free in no time! Do you have a Debt Free Date you are aiming towards?

As Lynz said either pay the £75 off the OD or whatever is costing you more in interest!! True DFW stylee!

I think being £75 nearer DFW status is a total gift! Celebrate! Sorry must stop using so many apostrophes....
